Low pressure washing of roofs

Curious if anyone has had their asphalt roof washed by a professional service recently and if so, how did it turn out?

We've added on to our existing home and of course, even though the singles are the same as what TV used...they look a heck of a lot better than the ones on the house.

I did see a post here from a few years ago...curious if anyone has actually had it done recently.

Also how about pressure washing of canvas awnings on the bird cage? Any vendor names would be welcomed!

CertainTeed covered this under warranty as we had mold on the roof, the company they contacted did an excellent job, around 2 years ago. I think I still have the paperwork. In any case do not ever use a high pressure system. I would call the manufacturer first and see what their thoughts are. Over the years the old shingles lost some of the stones and this will probably result in some color change, and this is probably not reversible with washing.

If your home is less than 10 years old call the warranty department and they will have power washed under warranty. Otherwise call a professional.

Our roof was washed under warranty a few years ago and the company and personnel were great.

For most houses, the Certainteed warranty for algae stains is 10 years. They will have the roof washed for free. Technically, the 10-year warranty is only for original and second owners, but a Certainteed rep told me that they really don't enforce that requirement. So, if your house is less than 10 years old, I would try to get it washed for free.

Thanks to those who posted their experience and level of satisfaction after having had their roofs soft washed

I have just called four of the local companies who advertise online that they do soft washing in TV, for a quote.

Three of the firms were very responsive, two were willing to come out today, look at the house and give me a quote...the other comes the day after tomorrow.

The 4th individual I spoke with stressed that he was a professional roofing expert and makes presentations on roofs at restaurants in the Squares every week. About five or six times during our brief conversation he mentioned he was a professional roofing expert. He was adamant that 'soft wash' was a scam and that I'd damage my roof by doing that. He said he'd gladly come by tomorrow and after inspecting my roof and the attic for 90 minutes he'd let me what his recommendation was. It was a pretty hard sell, it was clear he wasn't really listening, his solution would be replacing the roof on the main part of the house. I told him not to come as it would be a waste of his time and mine.

I will replace the roof in a couple of years, but that's not what I choose to do right now.

Just had my roof power washed, luckily I had 6 inch gutters to hold all the roofing gravel...

Sounds like it was actually power washed this is a big NO-NO for roofs, as you just found out it tends to remove the protective stones in the roofing. The low pressure washing will not remove the protective stones, it is similar to spraying a garden hose from ground level on to the roof. They probably did damage to your roof, but I doubt you will be able to prove it or collect in a suit.
