Mobile Carriers

Curious as to "the best" mobile carriers, coverage/strength, in The Villages.
Probably been asked before.
Current provider, keeps raising rates and has a terrible customer service/billing attitude.
Thank you in advance.

I believe everything you want to know is in this thread.

Consumer Cellular uses AT&T as their main carrier and T-mobile. AT&T is on par with Verizon in most of the country. Although the cable companies use Verizon’s network there are differences that you can Google but for basic calling it’s fine. The big difference is the cellular data. Cellular data is what costs money so the cable companies give you what they call unlimited data but what they don't tell you is after 30GB or some cap, they slow down the data rate. Also, you can use their wifi hot spot network unlimited so, I guess, it's unlimited data just not unlimited cell data which is what you want. For example, at Consumer Cellular, you can get $20/month plan with a data cap or $30/month with real unlimited cell data which is better than the cable company at the same price since there is no cellular data cap.

I'm not saying one service is better than another since everyone has their own needs. The cable companies don't tell you all these details because they want to bundle your cell phones, but when you read the fine print, it's all there. Just be aware when evaluating your needs.

We switched from Verizon to Consumer Cellular some many years ago.
CC has excellent coverage and a great price (AARP discount too)

Another vote for Consumer Cellular. My mom wanted to cancel her cell phone (Verizon) because she rarely used it.

Convinced her to try CC. We went to Target and we paid $60 for a droid phone that had a lot of features--not an iPhone but it takes pictures, texts, email, etc.

It was only $20??? a month for the service, the plan has limited data but she would never come close to using the 2-5GB they included..

The sales person at Target was extremely helpful and even deleted all the non-essential apps for mom so there were only 5 icons on the phone.

MINT seems like a good deal also....

Does CC give you unlined Data? I think not. What is the monthly cost? We have Spectrum internet and their Cell service (on Verizon network) unlimited everything for $30 a month. Hard to beat that.

Consumer Cellular gives you unlimited data for $30/month. That's real unlimited cellular data.

Spectrum says they give you unlimited data but when you read the fine print they say you get up to 30GB or some data cap then they slow you down to a very low rate. So yes it's technically unlimited data but not the same as Consumer Cellular which is a better deal.

You might want to check out Visible by Verizon. Plans start at $25/month, includes taxes and fees, unlimited data, talk and text. Much better than the plans offered by Xfinity and Spectrum.
I have a couple of neighbors on Visible for several years and are very happy with the service.
