Lanai power shades

We are interested in outdoor power shades for the lanai. I was thinking of shades on the outside of the screen.

Do they keep out some of the wind and rain? Any pros or cons after the purchase?

Thanks, Bryan

I purchased a set of three screens from Costco and installed them myself. The units I have are not rated for high winds, and they operate on stainless steel cables, similar to a clothesline. I need to ensure that I raise them during strong winds.

I recommend looking for a system similar to a garage door screen that can withstand high winds if you need a screen to help keep out wind and rain.

Coolbreeze did a nice job on ours.

They keep sun, wind and rain out.

The Lanai stays warm closing them on cool evenings.

Power shades do an excellent job of keeping rain water at bay, and really cut down the harsh effects of the sun, especially if you have a west-facing lanai. While they are not rated for hurricane force winds, a properly installed power shade can typically withstand winds of about 50 mph.

There are two main players that install power shades here in TV: RK Sunshades, and Shade Brothers. We have had shades provided by both company's, but prefer RK. RK Sunshades uses Somfy motors, while Shade Brothers has recently switched to a lesser quality 3rd party motor. Our experience has also been that Shade Brothers will quote prices significantly higher than RK, possibly due to their sales people working on commission. After the sale service from RK has also been superior to Shade Brothers. Those are just our experiences...YMMV.

I used Shade Masters, not to be confused with Shade Brothers, and have been very pleased. From the initial consultation visit, to the finalization of the order, through install...I have been very pleased and impressed.

Another vote for RK. Had them
Installed on both houses. Their power awning works great too. Can work with Alexa.

We used Shade Brothers. The product is expensive but gets the job done. It only took about two weeks from the day we ordered them to be installed. Very satisfied.

A couple of disgruntled employees left Shade Brothers and started their own company, called Shade Masters. We bought some interior Hunter-Douglas cellular blinds for our bedroom from Shade Masters. They did an excellent job and I would highly recommend them. You might want to at least get a comparison quote from them, especially if you are looking at Shade Brothers. They often run ads with great promotions in The Villages Daily Sun. However, I did not purchase the product you are considering, but I think that "power lanai shades" are their specialty and these guys are very knowledgeable about their products, as well as their competitors. Good luck with your project.

I have had mine for 3 months and I love them. They block the wind and most of the rain. Shade Brothers did mine. Expensive but I would buy them again.
