Lawn Mower Suggestion?
 

Hi,
We just moved here and are preparing for spring. We have St. Augustine grass. Instead of bringing the riding mower when we moved, we wanted to have something to fit the smaller yard about 2,000 sq.ft. and flat. I would like a battery mower if there are any suggestions from those that have one or warnings about what to avoid and why, Ego, Dewalt, et cetera.

Not sure how battery mower and St. Augustine grass would work. Worse case I would go back to a self-propelled gas mower, but which one?

Our EGO will be 5yo this June. Handling our St Augustine with zero problems. Our corner lot was slightly larger than what you will be mowing. You may have to charge at 3/4 mark or have 2nd battery.
Our edger, blower, and string are all ego with a smaller battery, so we could use the extra.

We are still on original batteries. You will mow once a week in summer, then 3-4 weeks during winter. Good tip from the lawn guru at Lowe’s in LL. Store your batteries in the house or you will be replacing then in couple of years.:thumbup:

We have since moved to smaller lot larger house with a pool, 20 minutes and we’re done.

Our EGO mower has worked flawlessly for four years here in Florida. We have a 60x125 lot and I can finish the job in no time with one battery charge. We also have an EGO edger and weed wacker. Get a high torque model if you're concerned about cutting St. Augustine grass .

I got the Ego 56V mower and separate weed whacker and blower combo kit that comes with another battery. I have a large lot and it takes me an hour to mow so the battery just makes it but sometimes not so a(only if the grass is big) with the extra battery in the combo kit I can finish and still have enough to weed whack and blow. If you’re considering a lawn service it’s average $60 or so and you may appreciate it in the hot summer, LOL. BTW, your neighbors will appreciate the low noise of the battery vs. motorized mower as you will be out there an hour vs. 5 minutes with a service.

DW mowers are still in need of tweeks before they are a contender. IMO

You must have a deal for lawn, it took us hour and 20 just to mow ours. Our lawn service started at $100, by the 4th year we were at $150. 4 other quotes were even more $$$. That’s when we bought the EGO.

Thank you, Ego sounds like the winner. After I moved in I was hoping I would see some battery mowers over here around the Sumter area neighborhood, but it's all kinds everywhere. The neighborhood guy who does 7 other houses just on my street over here said he would have to charge me 70 a month since mine was slightly larger, but included trimmer/blower in that price. I have no issue with price, just want to mow and trim my way and I was worried that batteries might not last more than a couple of years.

Internet research showed Ego was top performer, but until you actually speak to people who have had one for a long time, you don't believe it. Reviews always say how fantastic it was on the first cut or the second cut. I need longevity in a review and you provided. Thank you again.

Our Ego does the job very well. Yet, at 80 I'm not keen on pushing it around. (Didn't get the self-powered model.) I'd rather be out biking for my exercise. So, last year we upped the game to letting a robot do the job. Yes, it was a considerable up front investment, but less than 2-3 years of a hired mowing service.

We have very good success with the Mammotion Luba 2 robot. It is small, quiet, handles St. Augustine grass well, and can be scheduled to run as often as needed. Setup consists of showing it boundaries by driving it around with your phone as a controller. (like driving a radio control toy car) Lay out several zones, set some schedules, and let it do the work.

I have an ego that I can mow my lawn 4-6 times without charging, it’s 3 years old. I have all kobalt lawn tools that I have 2 kobalt batteries for. It takes me 25 mins to mow my lawn, maybe another 30 mins to trim around the landscape blocks, edge and blow it clean. After November 1st, I don’t mow until march 1st.

I have an EGO for the times when my lawn company doesn’t show up. It works great.

We bought a Ryobi, no problems works well.

Highly recommend a self propelled Ego
 

We had a non self propelled which was very difficult to push through the thick St Augustine. Self propelled made all the difference.

Our EGO handles our St Augustine fine. I can get 4 mows out of the battery. Make sure you get the blade that mulches for St Augustine. Also never store your battery attached to the mower. It will drain it. Always take the battery off it and store it away.
