Oscars to require watching movie to vote. Huh?
Academy Awards now requires voters to actually watch the movie.
The Academy Awards launched a new rule for members who vote for Oscar winners: You have to watch the movies to vote. THEY WEREN’T DOING THAT BEFORE!? How can that be a NEW rule? What were votes based on before before (You know the answer.)? As if you needed another reason not to watch. |
Is the "viewing" interactive, wherein one must click to respond to a question regarding the movie every ten minutes while it plays? Or can one simply put the video in the machine (or streamed from The Academy), press play, and simply go to breakfast?

I think you guys are missing the point. How can they bestow awards based on votes from people who didn't watch the movie? If they didn't watch, what is their vote based on? A feeling?

We hardly ever see the movies up for awards so apparently neither has the people voting for the film.
Who would have thought. |

Lately, I think its been more about checking the boxes on certain criteria that has nothing to do with a good movie and more to do with DEI.

The only thing that I might add is that I would like to see a Oscar for multiple-episode films since that is what many people are watching at home on streaming services. Something like "Zero Day" or "OA".
