Question for Lady golfers
 

My wife and I are going to take up the game of golf in the near future. We have all the necessities except "woods" for my wife. We will just be using the par 3 courses at first.
I can not see getting her the normal driver, 3 and 4 "woods". Once again we are good with her irons. And with your suggestions where could I get them used at a very good price. Thanks, Bud

I would get a driver and one other "wood". If you buy used clubs, make sure they are not too old. The newer sets have mostly hybrid clubs instead of irons because they are easier to hit. The shortest iron may be a 7-iron. If you find a used set that starts at a 4-iron, it is most likely an old set of clubs. New starter sets are pretty inexpensive.

Curious when you say you can not see getting her the normal driver, 3 and 4 woods. Why not? Are you saying she wont need them (ie driver?) She will need them on the executive courses, even those with no par 4's. I would say get her a driver, 3 and 5.

Okay about the driver. just cant see getting her some giant big Bertha type.

How young/strong is your wife? Some ladies I golf with use their drivers for as little as 110 yards. Definitely get her a 5 hybrid. And as long as you are getting that, get her a full set.

The executive courses have lots of par 4's Get her the Big Bertha type.

You can buy a top-of-the-line Big Bertha driver for women for only $500. It's almost as cheap as a Coach handbag. Go for it.

I agree re the thought that don't think that a "big bertha" type would be too much club. As mentioned, on the executives there are still par 4's on some. Even those without, there are some par 3's where I would be shocked if she could not benefit from a driver. For example, played Gray Fox yesterday. From the back tees, there is one par 4 and there are 5 par threes of over 170 yards.

Goodwill has single golf clubs at very low prices. They will be used but almost always fine for a starter player.

Look in the paper, half the so-called holes-in-one are 58 yards with a skulled driver into a 12 inch hole:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

And that's not sexist since I also see some men with the same "accomplishment"

Look on " The Neighborhood " web site, used clubs for sale almost daily.

Get her a newer decent set of clubs. It’ll increase the odds of her enjoying the game substantially. I was surprised to learn how much easier it is to hit the ball as the clubs have evolved over the years.

And it’s well taking the time for lessons. I did not enjoy golf until I did. Really helps to know what you’re doing wrong and how to fix it.

You could try Play it Again Sports in Leesburg. But, based on my personal experience, if you can afford it, don't skimp on equipment unless you don't want your wife to have fun. Having good equipment with generous lofts and proper shaft flex can help make the experience better.
