Genesis Health Club - Brownwood

I’m considering moving to a Medicare medigap plan through AARP/ UHC (plan G).

I see they have a gym membership benefit in this plan, Renew Active. The UHC website has a number of gyms in the area, including both Genesis Health clubs. But the Genesis clubs are listed as a “premium” location, with the note that not all medigap plans include premium gyms.

Does anyone here have a UHC medigap plan G and knows whether the Genesis gyms are included? If so, are their limitations because its considered premium? Does Genesis Brownwood get too crowded during the busy season? Thanks!

Don’t know the answer to the Edgar question, i suggest you call.

I’ve used genesis in brownwood during high season. I would say it gets crowded, but not too crowded that you can’t get a good workout in. I was always able to get equipment to use.

The Genesis busyness wouldn't be seasonal I think as much as time of day.
Mornings are super crowded.
Getting there after 11am if you can everything feels better.
It's a nice gym but I wouldn't consider it an amazing gym compared to bigger city gyms in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, etc.
Much more available than the fit clubs in the rec centers.

Hope that helps.

According to Genesis, they only offer benefits to UHC Advantage Plan members, not medigap or supplement plans.

This also applies to other non-UHC medigap and Medicare supplement plans.

Yes, Genesis, at least Brownwood, is included with the AARP/UHC Supplemental (aka Medigap) Plans via RenewActive; my wife and I have been using the RenewActive benefits at the Brownwood location for a number of years. They also have a location in Spanish Springs but I haven't been there. The Brownwood location can be crowded in the mornings, especially during snowbird season, but nothing you can't deal with. The afternoons are more lightly attended. You need to signup for the classes.

I have the UHC aarp renew active and I’m very disappointed as not as many gyms are a part of it as Silver Sneakers from my Aetna plan last year.

What does the renew - active mean? I have AARP UHC supplement and have had it for 10 years. As far as my research has gone, only silver sneakers was accepted on it. I recently heard information that the AARP supplement is now accepted at Brownwood /Spanish SPringsw Genesis Health Club. I plan on investigating it when I return in October to see if it is accepted. I dont know what renew-active means though if someone can help me out.

I have united healthcare plan G & I have renew active at Genesis..I don't know what the medigap plan is, but if you go over to the Gym & show them your insurance card, they will tell you right away...

I have that plan. They accept it. I pay nothing extra.

It has been accepted for at least 7 years (back when it was MVP).

Not according to the Genesis guy I talked with. Also, the AARP website says they only offer a coupon worth $32 per month through a third party, but they say that is not enough to join the premium gyms.

OP, I would suggest that you visit the Genesis gym and get first hand information about exactly what they do accept before enrolling in any Medicare supplement plan.
