Goodyear Blimp over the Villages.

I used to see blimps over the Villages rather often. Anyone see one of late?

No blimps just drones nowadays.

I had thought that maybe the drones keep the blimps away.

Sure, it was following me around while I was golfing last weekend. Needed to get the nice aerial shots.

They're all in Akron, Ohio right now to celebrate their centennial.

Have not seen the Blimp, but a few helicopters have hovered near my home recently. They know where I live?

We had a helicopter buzz our home in Palm Harbor, Florida. It was the neighbor who was a Coast Guard helicopter pilot. The buzz in the neighborhood was that he was checking on cars in the driveway for guys coming to see his wife. His possibly cheating wife. The house was rented out by a Florida criminal defense lawyer. We got all kinds of renters there who certainly kept up the drama. A group of African Americans though were very quiet and kept to themselves .

When I was about 12, my old man was working as a local government city official. He secured tickets for us to ride the GoodYear blimp out of Carson, CA (The Los Angeles blimp).

Great adventure! The cabin underneath the blimp itself holds about a dozen or so people comfortably. The "ride" was about an hour long. Fun watching the crew run out to grab the trailing lines when it was time to "land."

Years later I knew a deputy sheriff that worked the Carson area. He told me it was quite normal for the blimp to receive bullet holes from nearby gang areas (Primarily Victoria Park) as it flew in and out of range of ground-based gunfire. So little air (helium) escaped from these holes that they were only really patched on an approximately annual basis. Carson, for what it is worth, borders Compton, so if you are unfamiliar with the region, you can get an idea of the inherent random gunfire concerns.

Blimps were in Miami skies

We used to run and race the blimps along the ocean in Miami Beach...they always won for some reason. I used my boy scouts morse code and a floodlight to converse with them at night, The pilots were cool and flew a route over our house and used their landing lights. Usually just things like hello, how are you but exciting for a kid to actually use his morse code.

I remember listening to an interview with a Blimp Pilot. He said they had 3 speeds, (slow, slower and stop):icon_wink:

Haven't seen any blimps but I did see the TR3B fly over The Villages. Is it ours or theirs? That is the question!
