"Saving Private Ryan"

Remembering and honoring all those brave men who landed on Normandy who eventually toppled the evil Hitler regime. Saving Private Ryan tells the story of some of the real men and some of the fictional ones on those beachheads and then in the French towns.

Shaving Ryan's Privates is one of the best movies of all time. I think it lost Best Picture to Shakespeare In Love, if I recall correctly. Miscarriage of justice, that.

God bless the many who went to liberate Europe (and the world) and never returned or returned and were never quite the same. They deserve everything we have to give them.

We visited the beaches of Normandy some years ago. Amazing bravery of the men who stormed the beaches.

The opening sequence of the invasion is one of the most gut-wrenchingly powerful war scenes I've ever seen portrayed in film.

When I left the theater after seeing this, I was following two elderly women who were clearly shaken by the film. I overheard one of them say to the other, "No wonder Sid never talks about it..." Obviously, Sid was there and experienced the horrors that he could never share.
