The Days Will Be Getting Shorter

The 2025 summer solstice is on Friday, June 20, at 10:42 p.m. ET.

Bummer, being an evening person, with no bid for the early morning, I very much enjoy the later sunlight. Here’s a vote for scrapping daylight savings time, moving the clock forward two hours, and leaving it there year round.

Then kids will be walking to school or waiting at the bus stop when it's still pitch-black outside. Or they'll change school time a couple hours ahead, and parents who have to actually work for a living will have to decide a) quit their jobs to stay home because their 10-year-old can't be home alone and dress themselves and feed themselves and prepare their own lunches and get out of the house and lock the door by themselves, or b) the entire country would have to start everything 2 hours later, which pretty much defeats the purpose.

The days are getting shorter? What, are they only going to be 23 hours long now?

Even though the June 20th was the longest day, the latest sunset is not til June 30th. So for evening people there is that.

Never understood how this affects retired people

I get up and go to bed whenever I want; not dictated by the clock

And none too soon!

Or the OP could move to West Michigan (or any east side of the time zone) and enjoy sun that stays up till 10 pm, .

I recall working in the UP for a couple years. I did enjoy playing golf until 10:00 PM.

It was my Granddaughter's 15th on the longest day also. Perfect for her. She is an outdoor girl!
