Glassed in Lanai in a Colony Patio Villa

Hi there,

First off I am not yet a villager but I am an extensive planner. My love and I will be on our lifestyle visit at the end of next month and we cannot wait.

I have been looking at real estate listings and I love being able to budget things. I love the colony patio villas but I really really want a closed in (glass) lanai and not all of them have it. Does anyone know what that might cost? To convert a screened in lanai to glassed in?

thanks,

John

I am not familiar with Colony Patio Villas and the size or configuration of the Lanai. But you are smart to think about the issue. It took me 15 years to decide to enclose our Lanai and it was the smartest thing I have done. Our enclosed Lanai is our daily room of most use.

Enclosing it has many considerations affecting costs, and you really need to be able to have more definition of what you want. Some considerations after you decide the intended purpose and length of time you plan to live there:

1/ Size of the Lanai , square feet, linear feet of windows and doors to be added.
2/ Is it currently under a roof?
3/ Do you plan to AC and how?
4/ What type of windows, plastic, glass, double pane, floor to ceiling, sliders, kneewall.
5/ Shades, Sun Orientation.
6/ Flooring.
7/ County taxes None in Sumter county,

Just for info - We did ours in two phases. Phase 1 was to enlarge from 250 sq ft to 400 sq ft. Years later decided to enclose with flooring, insulation, insulated windows, AC Minisplit. About 44 linear feet of double pane picture windows and doors on Knee wall.

Recommend that you contact some place like Custom Windows to help you decide. They would be able to give you advice

I have a Colony Patio Villa. I enclosed my lanai, about 5 years ago. I have the full sliding windows and get the benefit of the enclosure and ability to still open to full screens. In 2020, it was just under $6,000. I used Custom Windows, they were fantastic!
