Etan Patz case conviction overturned on appeal
In May of 1979 a six year old boy in NYC named Etan Patz disappeared. It was a national story.
In fact, in 1983, President Ronald Reagan designated May 25—the anniversary of Etan's disappearance—as National Missing Children's Day in the United States. A person was arrested in 2012 and was convicted in 2017. Today, a federal court threw out the conviction and ordered that the defendant be released unless he is given a new trial within a reasonable time.
