Latest scam!

I received a text today from this number, 314-349-8037, advising me of an Amazon Product Recall. Beware! This is a scam. Just delete the text.

I get those from time to time from various accounts. Even though I am 99% sure it's a scam I always have an element of doubt, so I log into my account rather than respond via clicking a link. As you can imagine they are always a scam. And I can't count the number of times someone "erroneously" texted me. Be on guard.

You can set your phone to reject calls that are not in your contacts

I had a plan surgery with a new provider once.
They called me to set a date and I never pick-up for days because of unrecognized number.

Even adding their number to my contact list doesn't always help because these clinics use so many different phones.

Didn't they leave a voicemail or text? Both of these are available to view or listen to at your convenience. That is what I do.

Why is this crap so out of control?
We can send space ships to space stations, visit the moon, but can't stop
scammers from stealing from us.

I see last week now our government is finally getting involved because it's happening to them.

The Government can easily stop telemarketer calls and texts, but they have decided that they don't want to stop them. Go figure.

Lol, have you not noticed? Because a majority of retailers ask for your phone number when checking out (in person) if not using self-checkout..

It's not for the customers benefit, it's for the retail companies demographic analysis and purchase tracking.

I don't give it to them...pretty much ever. Consequently, I get maybe two troll calls per year.

I don't give out my phone number either, but I still get telemarketer calls. I don't hear them because my phone is set on "do not disturb" except for numbers that are on my contacts list.

Understood. But, A LOT of people do. I'm standing in line and I hear them do so.

Plus, plenty of companies (any kind) claim they don't sell your personal details but, they do. Yahoo (my email accts) has been persistently trying to get my phone # for a decade - I've never provided it. Millions probably have.

Also, don't you just love it when your computer on different websites
check to see if your not a robot. 🤖

Dotneko 08-08-2025 04:24 PM

Yes, I got the same text. It seemed pretty believable since I had bought several things lately which might have been recalled. I did click on it, but my phone wouldnt let me go there luckily.
I did look at my Amazon account and there is a section showing you if anything you bought might have been recalled. Nothing had.

My problem is that I am a robot, so I miss out on a lot of things.

Most scammers are out of our country like India, where it must not illegal for them to scam other country’s and if it is nobody looking for them.
