To Obama, America's greatness is a thing of the past.

His throw away comment also ignores the reality it is the

way of the present as well.

Given that any change of significance would be at least 10 years....the present need will be dwarfed, AGAIN, 10 years hence. Why the word AGAIN? In the 70's when the politicians were doing the then "current" arm waving, they decreed we must be on a path to energy independence so "this" cannot happen again. We went from importing 40-45% percent from the middle east to the current 70++%.

Now we don't want to upset the muslim oil rich countries by embarking upon a path to make their need obsolete.

When all gets said and done....this issue has more potential to make the USA a third world country than ANY other we face. And at the will of a nut job in the middle east or our friends (:1rotfl::1rotfl:) at OPEC we could be shut off tomorrow. And we here in TV are not exempt. When it happens it will be very ugly....every where.

I am always amazed at how little dialogue there is on this subject, here, other forums, the media, the WH (:1rotfl::1rotfl:)....anywhere for that matter. I guess nobody wants to talk about the Russian roulette we are playing with a bullet in every other chamber!!! It is ONLY a matter of time.

First thing that will happen is Democrats will jump on it to regulate, regulate, regulate, so we will still be paying high prices at the pump (and dont forget their main agenda always is tax, tax, tax) to them oil is a dirty word, especially when they have all the environmentalists in their pockets.
They are truly bad for America and the middle class. They already are frothing at the mouth to raise electricity prices and control your heating and air conditioning.

Didn't someone also recently slap a 7 year moratorium on off-shore drilling in the gulf?

America in decline seems to be the master plan.

dk: Well, since we're still drilling on land in Texas, California and Alaska, we should have no trouble getting the oil from North Dakota and Montana.

I'm still remembering that the governor of Montana said, not too long ago, that their coal reserve IN MONTANA ALONE could, using the Fischer-Tropsch process for creating liquid fuels from coal (invented almost 100 years ago), supply ALL the country's liquid fuel needs (gasoline, jet fuel, diesel) for the next 150 years.

Ignore the damn Climate Change argument for a moment. Even in an emergency it's going to take a LONG time to move off of fossil fuels. But THIS... We *could*, in theory, have sites up and running in FIVE years that would make it so we could thumb our noses at the Middle East.

Complication? The fact that oil is commodotized. What that means is that Exxon wouldn't be able to buy the wells and refine the fuels and pay just for production costs (including federal taxes that would help our deficit) and undercut every tinpot dictator. No, it'll go through "the markets" where speculators will make the most for themselves.

Drill now, drill everywhere we can. Cut the government down to size and watch the economy fly and the deficits fall... meanwhile the democrats and liberals will fight it every step of the way.

Its mind boggling that people flock to them to vote still, I just dont and have never understood that. Even back in Lincoln's time he had to resort to locking them up when they wanted to negotiate an end to the war with the south., its like their total purpose has always been to bring down their own country.

oil?

"could", "horizontal drilling", "discovered in 1951". ???? This sounds fishy to me, but boy it fluffed up the obama haters.

Guest 02-16-2011 04:25 PM

Do a little research and you'll discover it's
a lot more than just horizontal drilling.

BTW, we don't hate Obama, we hate his policies.

To see what the effect would be on non USA crude suppliers

all Obama would have to do is announce that the USA is embarking upon an AGGRESSIVE pursuit of oil from wells on USA property with the objective to cut oil imports by 50% in 5 years or less.

Cut off the subsidies to non USA oil companies and offer a like amount as incentive to domestic oil production.
Announce to the world that the country that uses the most oil in the world is going to initiate/sponsor/subsidize any and all DOMESTIC technologies that replace/displace the use of imported oil.

Then have Obama put his political spin on the subject further stating these aggressive actions will in turn ease the pressures of oil supply on other emerging countries/economies.

The reaction would be immediate.

Oh darn, I just woke up!! It was/is a hell of a dream.....eh? And oh so easy to make a reality.
The only down side I can see in the whole scheme is Obama just might get re-elected if he did ANYTHING close to the above!!

Looks like another myth - but at least it's PARTIALLY true.

The part that is 100% true is we can do more....SIGNIFICANTLY

more drilling with no risk to the environment and we as a nation CONTINUE to do NOTHING about reducing dependence on first, oil from the mid east and second to accelerate alternative resources.

Just watch the crisis, knee jerk jump to do something when the crude supply is interrupted. Then it will be too late.

Business as usual in Washington.
