Silver Lake
 

If putting is a major enjoyment of your game, I would skip playing Silver Lake . The greens are in terrible shape !

I guess the best description I can give you is that the greens are “unkept” . You would be extremely lucky if you could keep a put online to the hole.

The holes on ALL of the greens have very ragged and damaged edges and that’s the result of golfers sticking their ball retrieval suction cups without first removing the flag stick and/or sticking their big paws into the hole to get their ball without any concern for the damage they are causing . Add to that, every green had spike drag marks by folks that don’t know how to pick up their feet when they walk!

When we played , it was evident that the hole locations had not been changed in a few days .

The rest of the course was in relatively good shape and I do have to mention that the staff there was very friendly and made you feel welcome.

Is the course playable ? Yes it is. Curse rating ?

I would say a C due to the condition of the greens….

Very sad, course recently went through a complete renovation and that’s the result? The greens were better before the renovation. Rather than dropping significantly money on renovations, they should spend it on proper ongoing maintenance. The company that is contracted to maintain the Executive courses in the north east section of the Villages (Down to Earth) has failed miserably and let them all go to crap over the last year or so.

Can I just voice my opinion? I live on Silver Lake. I have seen three players come with three golf carts and drive them all over the fairway. Double up and walk. I can't believe they are all handicapped.

Use of Course Access Pass Guidelines
 Applies only to the individual(s) with the CAP card.
 Parking of golf cars on the slopes/surrounds of any green is prohibited.
 Golf cars must be kept a minimum of 10 yards from Greens.
 Do Not Park in front of Greens.
 Avoid areas between the green and bunkers.
 When conditions warrant and the course has been designated Cart Path
Only, ALL golfers including those with CAP cards must adhere to the cart
path only restrictions

There are golfers who reject the rules and do as they please, because they are more important than you are and rules don't apply to them.

The same ones who blow out the holes with their ball-retrievers, who don't rake the sand traps or leave the rakes in the middle of the trap instead of near the edges, who don't repair their own divots, and who drive their golf carts through rain-saturated areas, creating mud slopes. They will also smoke cigars while they drive their carts between holes, linger for 10 minutes and causing backups of golfers behind them, drive the carts they rented to play the course, to the country club for lunch instead of returning them when they're finished golfing, and walk their dogs on the cart paths on the golf course closest to their homes, after the course is closed for the night.

The last time we played it all but one green had tractor tread marks running across them making the ball bounce and turn. Between that and like you said people dragging their feet along the green and digging into the hole. By the way my putter ball retriever is not a cup but a slim fold out catch. I still don't think Silver Lake has been in great shape since they spent 500,000 renovation and stopped golfers driving on it. It has more wet areas than it ever did.

Golf like any other outdoor sport you have play conditions. Blame fellow golfers for making conditions worse. I rarely get over to silver lake, I use to play pool over there occasionally. Sliver lake has best “commercial” pools tables in villages, not recreational tables you buy for home with small wooden rail and pockets that break down over continuous use and recovering. I find golf in villages pretty top notch. Due to majority amenities spent on golf compared to other activities. it could be worse.
