CAUTION New Gates Have Started

Just a warning that some of the entrance gates have been changed already.Noticed this AM Bonita & Canal gate is now longer and you MUST use the swipe pass to get thru. Golf cart won't squeeze by.

Mudder 02-17-2011 02:04 PM

Thanks for heads up , heading that way later!:mademyday:

I don't understand the point of the new gates since anybody can get in whether resident or not.

This way, you can't squeeze through in case a train comes.

SALYBOW 02-17-2011 05:21 PM

Darn Trains

And you cannot be too careful with respect to trains going down Canal. :icon_bored:

If I remember correctly, wasn't this required to conform to some crazy federal regulations regarding highway signs, etc.?

I almost bought that gate this afternoon. It was really close. :pepper2:

Ohiogirl 02-17-2011 07:14 PM

we went South on Canal and it was there - people in carts stopping to hit the button. Then on our way back (from Colony Plaza) there was a worker there and the gate was up, and it looked to me like it had been changed back to the shorter one (but not sure).

If they do this, wonder if they are going to offer more free gate cards for those who have more than 1 car and 1 golf cart.

Pturner 02-17-2011 07:43 PM

I wish we could just scan the barcode on our new Villages ID and not have to have the separate card for the gates.

Ohiogirl 02-17-2011 08:49 PM

Pturner, hope they thought of that, but I don't think so. Great idea, though. We were trying to figure out where we would keep the gatecards in the golf carts (and be able to reach them easily). This could be a real pain.

BlueHeronFan 02-17-2011 09:02 PM

I like how some of the gates have a go around that doesn't even use the gate. Makes no sense to now have to use a pass on some, and others you can go around the gate to the trail.

Something tells me it is a gov't thing.

Update

As of approx 5PM Thrusday, the northbound gate on Canal @ Bonita has been shortened and you can proceed through without using a card.

That's sounds like a great idea; except you see how many people at the golf courses and rec centers have trouble scanning these new cards. Imagine that at the gates.

Yay! someone else had this idea and submitted it!

redwitch 02-18-2011 10:23 AM

But if we used our ID cards, we wouldn't have to pay for the gate keys and it would be another financial loss for TV, especially as often as they get lost and now will be stolen out of the carts (the most common item removed/lost from golf carts).

memason 02-18-2011 12:10 PM

There's an APP for that.....

I use my cell phone to open the gates.... once I'm within 20 ft of the gate, it opens automatically by transmitting my ID to the pad....

Just saying... :loco:

Is that on your app page? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

I heard they are going to use the Sunpass system. I wonder if TV residents will get a discount. :gc:

Mike, I think they need to put you through the full-body scanner. :jester:

Shimpy 02-18-2011 02:31 PM

Just use the visitors side and push the button, they let everybody in. That's what I do on my motorcycle. If you think getting a card out is a P I T A. then try it on a motorcycle. Pull up to the gate, put it in neutral, get the card out, wave the card, put the card back, put it back in gear and drive thru.

Les, you forgot the "tip bike/try to regain balance" step towards the end there somewhere. That's something I personally try to include......:pepper2:

Bill :)

No, no....really, it works great. Right now, it works about 50% of the time. It seems to work every time I go out the gates, but I'm still having a little trouble entering the gates, but I'm working on it....

Hmmmm....... Full-body scanner ????

Hawkwind 02-18-2011 08:41 PM

What about a bar code sticker on the roof of the cart? If you have a rental or are on a LSP you are out of luck and have to dig for the card.

Another option would be a RFID chip that is similar to the one in the card placed on the post of the cart. Some custom carts may have a problem here though.

Cripes, Mike, I've been looking all over the web for the instructions.... :read:

How is that possible?

bike42 03-19-2011 12:21 PM

The new long gates are the work of your Amenity Authority Committee (AAC). There is no federal or state regulation requiring them; that is a ruse. The AAC wanted to punish a group of very fast bicycle riders who come through the gates without stopping. They are spending $$$$$$ of your amenity fees with little thought about the consequences. PLEASE be sure to report all gate incidents, especially injuries or close calls when gates close without giving you enough time to get through.

rubicon 03-19-2011 12:47 PM

New Gates

When is proposal was first announced in both the Village voice and POA bulletin, I emailed the AAC and explained that they were creating a nightmare for people and one that was totally unnecessary given that anyone can pass through the gates at anytime and for any reason. In an earlier post the writer made mention fo the AAC wasting our money and to him I say AMEN

Um... Mich,
Don't try this at home. Mike has an excellent imagination.
