Possible Cure for Nervous Dogs

If your dog has separation anxiety, or is very nervous, this might be worth a try. Compression works for cows and humans, why not dogs?

Here is another video featuring a vet. Check it out. Would be good for dogs who must take medications to stay calm during thunderstorms, etc. When the page opens up, look to the right and click on Fox News.

Maybe there is hope on the horizon for my Caly in a golf cart

I was just getting some advice about Caly in a golf cart in a recent thread: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ad.php?t=35928

Thank You K9

Purchased the Thundershirt for Duffy. In the past year Duffy has become anxious riding in the cart and has started barking when we leave home and when I return his face is all wet from crying. Today I put his Thundershirt on (size XXS) and left home; no barking and his face was dry.:pepper2: Amazing!!! Later I'll put it on for his cart ride and see how that works but so far so good. Thanks K9.

Awesome, that is good news. I was not going to try it at all, but having someone on TOTV having success is making me reconsider.... Any chance XXS fits an 80 pound lab so I can try it :)?

That's amazing. Wish I had one when we had our Sydney....bless her heart, she was an extremely anxious puppy. Thanks for sharing this.

While searching online for the shirt you talked about, I also found the Anxiety Wrap for dogs. Seems to be made of a more breathable fabric. Didn't even know these wraps existed before your posting K-9, again, thank you.

Well I bought one for my yappy poodle. She is VERY verbal about any little thing, but especially if she sees something irritating, like a leaf fall, a bug walk by, the clouds moving in the sky, a song she doesn't like playing on the radio . . . you get the picture. I tried it on her today while there was a worker in the back yard of our CYV. Usually, I have to put her in a back bedroom with the televison on because she goes beserk when workers are in the yard.

Today, with the Thundershirt on, she watched him out of the slider window for a while (no barking, well, one bark) and then took a nap on the bed while he proceeded to make all kinds of noise.

The shirt works. Who knew?

Reminds me of that movie I recommended you all to see, "Temple Grandin".

I feel as though I've hit the lottery with this shirt. Duffy has been an extremely calm dog until this past year. He's developed some anxieties and has started to shake when I make moves to leave. Now I put his thundershirt on and bingo..... calmness. Who knew!!! :a040::a040::a040: Thanks again K9.

When is the golf cart test for Duffy? This is my Caly's biggest issue......

duffysmom 03-05-2011 11:08 AM

AJ, we will take Duffy out later today for his test run. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I'll let you know this evening.

We've learned that a snugger fit brings a more calming effect. So try varying degrees of tightness according to the amount of stress.

In our case, less for the vacuum cleaner and more snug for cart rides, etc.

Haven't been on our cart ride with the thundershirt; unexpected company. Hopefully tomorrow.

I'm back. Had a hard time getting on line and posting. After trying the thundershirt several times I'm sorry to say it isn't working. I'm reluctant to make it too tight since Duffy is tiny and I'm afraid to restrict his breathing. He has continued to bark when I leave and shake in the cart.
I'm disappointed:grumpy: but I'll continue my quest for a solution.

Get Duffy a companion. That has worked for me in the past. When my little yorkie was sad, nervous and upset when left alone, I rescued another little dog from a shelter. While they preferred me over each other, my little guy stopped being nervous when I left the house. He stopped barking and crying when alone in the house with his new buddy.

Thanks for letting us know. I am about to take Caly "The Siren" out for a quick golf cart ride. I will explain she has to suck it up as there is no Thundershirt coming!
