Max My Speed.com

Has anyone used this? My computer is acting slow and I'm wondering if this would help.

Do you have any nerd friends?

Or ever the computer club might assist you.

My understanding is that Max My Speed is a registry cleaner.

Microsoft Security Essentials (free) is also a great tool

Dance the Tango

If your computer is acting slow, why not do the Tango? Go to www.securitytango.com and click the "Let's Dance!" button on the left. Print out the instructions and follow them exactly! Don't skip any steps and make sure you do everything in safe mode. The process will take several hours or longer. It works on both PC and MAC platforms. Just make sure you select the correct platform for your computer.

If you are uncomfortable doing this on your own, contact someone in the computer club for help.

Interesting advice from kfierle, and it may well work - kinda depends on what the problem is - Tango generally appears to believe that the root cause of the problem is due to malware of some type, and loading all these programs or apps (an ugly word) i.e. * CWShredder * Stinger * SuperAntiSpyware * Malware etc. will address the problem. I've noticed some anti malware virus checkers (particularly Norton & Macafee so I've heard) slow down processing and cause assorted problems themselves. In my book lgefrerer might want to look at some of the software he has installed over time - any un-needed s/w should be removed. Given that removal of some s/w is not always effective, sometimes a complete re-install of the OS might be an idea - it can be done without having to reload all your 'apps' but you may need help to do this. As a footnote I have been running various IBM PCs from day one (1982 I think) and have no anti malware pgms installed and have only got nailed once - I used a floppy disk from a friend. I find that common sense, never open emails or attachments from unknowns, access only safe web sites and the built in safegards in Firefox and my router work for me. OOps I lied - I use openDNS to prevent phishing.
