GE Microwave Trouble

Our GE 1.8 cu over range microwave is having problems shutting off after approximately 3 minutes. It appears possibly a heat related problem because it's good to go after 10 minutes and again only for 3 mintues. I hate to call a service repair to look at it. What is more cost effective, service call/repair or new one? Anyone with a similar problem and if serviced the cost and person to contact. We've already cleaned the filters, no luck. Thanks

Very simple.

If the microwave oven is still under warranty, let the manufacturer know and they will replace it at no cost.

If the micorowave over is not under warranty, it is more cost effective to go to Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, or Best Buy and get a new one. That way you will not have any problems with it since it is now under a new warranty.

Is anything blocking the vent to cause heat to build up? Can you feel any airflow from the front of the unit when it's on? Our house came with the micro and stove vented to the outside, but I still can feel some airflow from the front of the micro when it's on.

I don't live in TV yet, but here are two positives references to appliance repair that I have read here on TOTV...
Appliance repair: Frederick Appliances, coupon in Daily Sun
Appliance repair: Jim at Villages Refrigerator & Appliance Repair 348-3411 or 216-8324

Get the model number of the unit and Google it to see what comes up. Also try things like model number and then troubleshooting or timer issues and see what hits. You will be amazedat what you can come up with that way.

like Tbugs said.

Appliance repair is out of the question, the parts alone are very costly, best bet to get a new one.

Yes, get a new one but not GE. Four of us in the neighborhood have had our GE microwaves act up or die in the last few months. Best bet: go to Appliance Direct and get a Whirlpool. That store not only has great prices but the lowest (by far!) delivery and installation -- often next day. Ugly store and ads but great to do business with.

Thank you for the all replies and help. We certainly are not big fans of GE products, came with the house. We've been checking product reviews for replacing the microwave. Thanks SARATOGAMAN for the heads up on The Ugly store. Good price, low overhead I like that. We definitely check them out.

Replacement

Ours died so I bought a GE upgrade that would fit without modifying the exit for the vent! This can be a real project if the new one doesn't fit.

Our ge microwave just blacked out 2009 but hardly used

Two comments:

1. Don't repair, get a new one.

2. GE products are known by all the service people as junk. Buy anything but GE.
