Cold weather clothes
 

Being from the Northeast, my closet is filled with 'cold weather' clothes (winter is no longer a word in my vacab). In sorting through my stuff I'm not clear on what to take. I know I will need some things to wear when I visit family during THAT season (although if they were smart they would come to visit me), but I'm puzzled about what to keep for the not-so-warm days in TV. How cold does it get and for how long? Seems to me I've heard that the last couple of years have been colder than usual, but for me that means below zero!
Can anyone provide some guidance?

:welcome:friends here who abandoned their cold weather clothes regretted it. Friends who kept all sweaters and some jackets and raincoats(including me) are happy they did so. In short I wear sweaters most days (and all evenings) November through March, and sometimes a lined jacket or fleece jacket. I usually add a hat and gloves. If you travel North during that time, you will be comfortable wearing your winter coat to the airport.
At all times of the year, you will want to take along a light cardigan sweater or jacket when you go out because restaurants and theaters can be very chilly.

Don't do as many people from "up north" do and get rid of all of them. Keep some of your favorite sweaters, slacks and a jacket or coat or two. It does get nippy here in the winter. Temps can be in the 60's but a brisk north wind makes it feel colder. You will regret getting rid of ALL your clothing in that case. Last winter (not the one just past) we had a record cold and it last from Christmas to April I think.

As the other poster said you may also need them when you make trips back home as well. I know I even kept my snow-boots for that occassion should it arise.

We have a closet with "winterwear" in it. We still go back to Virginia about every three months to see all those we left behind and always go back for the Christmas Holidays. We kept our ski jackets as well and we have had to wear them at Disneyland watching the fireworks in December/January. It does get down in the 20's at night or has since we moved here in 2007. Of course, the stores here also carry sweaters, sweatshirts, etc.

I have seen Ugg boots worn here and some Northface jackets. I am only saying this because my college granddaughter has taught me how "cool" they are. I wanted to show off.

I also have seen faux fur jackets and some (hold your ears K9 and Bare) real fur jackets.

Don't throw out your warm jammies either.

Cold to a villager seems to be about 55. People put coats on their dogs and wear gloves at 55.
I'm still living up north where a hat and gloves might be considered with temps below freezing and a 20 mph wind. I plan to keep all of my cold weather clothing when we move to TV. I expect that every year in TV 55 will seem colder and colder.

My wife and I are exactly in the same situation. We are packing as we speak. I do plan on keeping a few of my winter clothing. I'm assuming you get used to the hot weather and now 55 seems cold where it would feel like spring, shorts and a tee shirt, up north.

We are ditching the snow shovels and snow boots but keeping most everything else. The winter of 2010 it was in the 20's and was an ugly winter in Fla.

Inlaws made the mistake of chucking everything and then needed to buy cold weather replacements which are hard to find in some Fla towns.

I love the few really cold days where I can snuggle up in my favorite sweater, put on my fleece socks, wear a pair of courds and put on my down vest and gloves when I take the dog for a walk. I've saved maybe 3 sweaters, 2 pr courds, several long sleeved t-shirts, a 3 season jacket, my down vest, a pr gloves, a few scarves...maybe a weeks worth of warm layered clothes similar to what I had in Colorado, just not as much. I figured next winter, I'll take a closer look at what I'm using and if not worn in 1 year, give it away!

I agree on last winter. No matter how you sugar coat it 2009-2010 winter was not very Florida-like, I was glad to have some winter clothes. To be honest 2008-2009 was not what we expected either. 2010-2011 winter on the other hand was awesome and everything we thought it would be and more when buying a place in north central FL.

If you have never experienced 55 with a 15 MPH NE wind in TV, you will be shocked. It does not feel like what you think 55 should feel like, so keep a few items to keep you warm .....
