Village of Sanibel

We have just purchased a lot in Sanibel. Any other new Sanibel folks out there? We still have a home to sell here in Illinois, but hope to be full time residents as soon as we can. We would love to connect with potential neighbors out there!

ajbrown 05-14-2011 05:44 PM

Congratulations! You are out in the frontier lands of The Villages. The buidling is really getting going in that area. It is so new I cannot even get my golf cart in there quite yet.....

skyc6 05-14-2011 05:52 PM

I know! We drove down there in March when we were there, and may not have been supposed to, but no one stopped us! We bought our lot long distance, and are looking forward to seeing it in June!

GaDawg 05-14-2011 06:39 PM

Sanibel will be home

as soon as our house sells. We bought on Baker Ln a couple of weeks ago and can hardly wait until the building begins. Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the neighborhood of The Villages! See you in Sanibel!

skyc6 05-14-2011 06:51 PM

Nice to meet you GADawg! Our lot is on Bradford Loop, and we are definitely looking to calling the Village of Sanibel home! We will be waiting a bit to start building in the hopes that our home here sells.

pzjay 05-15-2011 11:15 AM

Us too!

 Just left you message, skyc6. We are also excited to see that the neighbors are starting to post. I just love being a newbie in a new Village! So many new people to meet and we're all in the same boat!
:wave::wave:

skyc6 05-15-2011 01:12 PM

Pzjay,
Thanks for the reply! It is fun to chat with future neighbors on here! I sent you the message before I figured out how to start a new thread, and I also have realized I have not put it on the right forum! I am clearly a newbie here!:o
I can see you lot on the map-you are in the cul-de-sac, and we are in the north cul-de-sac on Bradford loop. Actually, our lots are similarly shaped! We are getting anxious to get there. Good luck on your house selling; sounds like you may have a possibility. Not so here, but it will sell when it is meant to be. Patience! We look forward to meeting you when we both arrive. Are you golfers? My husband is, but I am not; at least not at this point. I am looking forward to all kinds of new activities soon!

Pturner 05-15-2011 03:35 PM

Welcome to all the soon-to-be Sanibelians! How exciting that you will be pioneers of the third town center area. I'm thrilled for all of you.

Um, AJ... We have pictures remember. :girlneener: Love to Caly.

skyc6 05-15-2011 04:44 PM

Thanks, PTurner! We are excited to start this next Villages section. Looking forward to the whole adventure.
Love your new haircut, too!

jfmajer 06-15-2011 04:51 PM

We will also be building in Sanibel just as soon as another buyer comes our way. We thought we were all set but as of yesterday the deal fell through at the last minute and so we begin again. We just keep thinking of the future and all the wonderful people that will be helping to form our new "village". It will happen! Jim and Pat:wave:

skyc6 06-15-2011 11:21 PM

It is so nice to hear from future neighbors in Sanibel! I will say prayers on my end if you will say some on yours!! I am working hard to be patient and wait for that 1 buyer who says yes! To pjmcd and jfmajer, welcome to our future "neighborhood!" We have a lot on Bradford Loop. Right now we are in Rockford, Illinois. Hope to be fulltimers at TV as soon as we can, but that may be a while! We will be there for a few days in late June, so we will finally be able to check Sanibel out!

GaDawg 06-16-2011 07:42 AM

Sanibel Lives!

Hey Sky, The GaPeach and I have been down here this week getting our house plan complete and money down to build before the price increase, and it is amazing to look at all the building going on. We counted 20 or so houses at some stage of building in Sanibel. Two additional homes have been started this week while we were here. I have pictures to post when we get home. The Pool and mail area is done and should be ready for use when the first resident moves in. We were able to drive throught the model center today and it looks like it has been there for years. It opens tomorrow. The closing for our house is August 26, 70 days to build our Iris. Just a great time for us, and we have our prayers going out to everyone who may be waiting for this day as well.

zummy 06-16-2011 01:27 PM

Sanibel village

We will be back in the VIllages to late to avoid the price increase. We bought lot 13 . Did you have a choice on the builder or are they just assigned?
How long did the design process take?

Any suggestions to us on the process? Thanks

skyc6 06-16-2011 01:45 PM

Zummy,
I cannot answer any of your questions about the building process, but I can tell you that we are Lot 16, just 3 houses down! Tom and I will look forward to meeting you when we cross paths in Sanibel. We are going to be there from 6/26-6/30 and then again 7/5-7/10.
We are hoping our home sells in the not too distant future, so we can migrate south!
Till we meet in TV,
Mary

GaDawg,
I am so happy for you and your Peach! Sounds like things are starting to pop in Sanibel! I would love to see your pictures when you post them. We are going to be there soon, but it is so good to hear the building has started!
Continued thoughts and prayers for all needing a home buyer!!

Also from IL and picked out lot in Sanibel last week

We are from IL also and picked out our lot in Sanibel last week. We are coming down in December to start the house process and hope to have a closing in early March. We plan on becoming frogs. My wife can retire in two months and I will retire in 8 months. Can't wait to join all the cool people in Sanibel.

jfmajer 06-23-2011 07:52 PM

Moving from the eastside of Cleveland (Richmond Hts.) to the Village of Sanibel hopefully in November. Will be down the week of July 17th.

angiefox10 06-25-2011 11:21 AM

Hi, Angie! You have figured out the posting business very well! We are leaving for TV tomorrow, and can't wait to see what we bought! What lot did you buy or what street is it on? We can pretty much go when our home here sells, so we are just keeping our fingers crossed, but retirement is looking very good from here! :2excited:

angiefox10 06-25-2011 01:23 PM

Welcome to Sanibel and to TOTV! We sure are getting several Sanibelians on this site. Looking forward to meeting you in the future. My GaPeaach and I have been on a two year venture to get to TV for good, and will close on our new Iris on Baker Ln. on August 26. I just love it when a plan comes together and we hope yours will as well. As we say in Georgia, Y'all come visit, ya heah!

hi there the person we were working with wanted us to purchase a lot in Sanibel, but we were NOT ready: husband and myself were down there
and absolutely loved it, going back in October, rented a home for a month,
want to make sure we REALLY love it at the villages. Are u going there to rent before u 'r house is sold.

been reading and research with reference to the villages. I understand there are hidden fees, so i am concerned with that. What model are u having built.

angiefox10 06-25-2011 04:17 PM

Thanks!!! We'll take you up on that!

Schaumburger 06-25-2011 04:59 PM

 Hello AngieFox from a TV wannabee in the N.W. suburbs about 12 miles west of O'Hare. Is Channahon near Joliet? Congratulations on your purchase in Sanibel - you and your husband are lucky!

angiefox10 06-25-2011 06:19 PM

Yes... Yes it is... 12 miles south of Joliet.

We won't get there until Spring of next year.

We spent many years traveling Florida to find the perfect place to retire. While we were told about The Villages, we thought we wanted to be on a beach and didn't get the concept of The Villages. One year while we were in Orlando looking in the middle of the state, we decided to check it out and see what all the fuss was about. All we had to do was drive into Spanish Springs. See the people walking around hand in hand, eating at the sidewalk cafes window shopping to KNOW this was THE PLACE!!!

I refused to go back until we were ready to buy as I was afraid I would end up with two homes to maintain. Well.... We are ready now!!! We won't be able to pull the plug and start this thing until December... BUT... Watch out when we are!!!

Can't wait!!!:pepper2:

Hi villadrive, We came two times for short visits and wanted to truly experience the lifestyle so rented for March, 2011. Bought a lot in Sanibel via telephone on May 3rd, house on the market May 11th, sold June 3rd and we will be there to watch construction of our home (a Gardenia - most likely) begin in Oct! Needless to say, we loved the lifestyle! Not sure about "hidden fees". Are you referring to the bond and CDD payment? The homes are pretty straight forward - no negotiating on new builds. We are happy, happy campers and can't wait for Oct!:pepper2:

skyc6 06-25-2011 08:29 PM

Hi, All!
Angie--your lot 26 on Evinston is pretty close to ours. We are lot 16 on Bradford Loop, so it looks like 1 yard inbetween. We are leaving in the morning, and I am anxious to get there!
Schaumburger--seems there are a lot of Illinois people moving to Sanibel! We are in Rockford now trying to sell here.
Villadrive--No, we already own a home at the villages and will sell that one to move to Sanibel. We just wanted a little more room when we are permanently there.
It will be fun to meet everyone soon. Until then, I guess we will be online buddies!

skip0358 06-25-2011 09:07 PM

Skyc6, Rockford is a hop, skip and jump from Schaumburg on 90 going west. I drive past Rockford on the "way to my dad's home in Iowa.

Angie and Skyc6, someday I know you will miss your snow shovels and ice scrapers - not. It will be a few years until I can buy in TV, so you will have to break it in for me. Don't use all of the Florida sunshine before I can move to TV.

AND... I used to go to Schaumburg to work events when I was in marketing for my company!!! I stayed at the Marriott and would have my breakfast at the Panera! I LOVE Schaumburg. As to the snow.... It's killing me that I have to go through another winter here as it is!!!

I LOVE it here in the summertime.... it's the winters that kill me!

When will you be in The Villages?
