Easy tick removal tip
Easy Tick Removal Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets. Give it a try. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time and it's much less traumatic for the patient, unless allergic to soap. |
Thanks for the tip.

Are ticks a big problem in TV? Up north, with sooooooo many deer, we have a Lyme disease alert every season. I've seen those who suffer from Lyme and it's not fun.

We have found one on each of our dogs since the middle of May. Both were very small and were hard to get to through their thick hair. They never had any ticks in VA. We apply Advantix to them each month and that kills ticks and fleas. We also have found some fleas, some dead and some alive. Guess the alive ones hadn't bitten yet or the Advantix had not hit them yet. When I say "we", I actually mean "my wife."

Thank you for your comments! Good advice about the soap on the cotton ball. Less invasive!!!

Although I have never found a tick (and rarely a flea) on any of the pets I have owned, I will most definitely pass this tip on to all my friends with pets. Thanks for the great tip! Annabelle |
I do not know for sure, but just some more info

There are various tick removal tools available. I’ve not used these myself (yet...but I keep meaning to buy one). However, I have 3 or 4 friends who’ve used the “Ticked-Off” brand and they say that they work very well.

Later I found an effective tick removal tool at a pet store. It's a little plastic gizmo which slides along the dogs skin and sort of scoops up the tick. It's difficult to get through the fur to the tick but the little critter comes right out without damage. |
We use Revolution on our pets. It does keep the fleas and ticks off. However, my hubby sometimes gets a tick when he's out working in the yard. For that, we still use tweezers.

I've always managed to be able to pick ticks off of us with my fingers then slice the sucker in half with a fingernail. End of tick problem.
