Unstable computer
My computer is giving me the blue screen of death too often for comfort. Today the repair didn't work and it had to go to system restore to start. That said, my data is all backed up. I'm not sure if I have my Outlook files adequately backed up or not. What concerns me is all of the drivers (printer, scanner etc.) and additional programs that I have loaded - Syncback, Blackberry, AVG, Skype, Malware software, FLV video player etc. etc. I'm thinking there is cloning software. Suggestions before I have a disaster?

For Windows 7 (probably similar going to earlier versions) click the start icon in lower left corner of screen. Then search for Backup. You should see something like Backup and Restore. Click on this and then look for create a system image or a repair disk.
You could have a bad disk. Take a look at GRC.com and read about spinrite. This will fix your disk if that is the problem but you would probably want to replace the disk if you think it might be failing. |

Do you have an active anti-virus program working?? Check in control panel>programs to see if one is one your list. If none then download Microsoft Essentials then do a complete scan. NEVER have two anti-virus programs working at the same time Go to programs> accesories> tools> and click disk cleanup. When prompted do the clean up. Take two aspirins and call me in the morning Hi Jo Handie |
Hi Handie. Can you run Microsoft Essentials and AVG? I have paid AVG on this machine. I don't think my problem is malware or a virus but is in the hardware system.

Usually the "blue screen of death" also gives some detail as to what may be causing the problem. In a lot of cases I've seen it's been a driver conflict, either with WINDOWS or another driver. Drivers are essential for the successful performance of WINDOWS. The blue screen indicates that WINDOWS aborted its loading for some reason. From the list of programs you gave it seems that you have a lot of communication software and each one has its own driver. You may have some kind of conflict going on with all those drivers loading up at the start.

Sorry not recommended. I have to say that I have been using microsofts security programs for yrs now and have yet to get bitten by a bug, and they are free. Jus Sayin Handie |
