My friends Palm

I have been asked to watch my friends newly planted palm trees palm that he planted six weeks ago. He has a timer on his hoses for twice a week. The leaves on the Sylvester are turning brown near the bark. Is it getting too much water? I figure with all the rain we are having and the hose still watering the palms it might be too much. I planted my palms around the same time and I was told to water heavily for a month and then regular watering. My palms look healthy. Should I back of his timer?

I would first ask the friend.

I already did. He told me to use my judgement. In other words, if he returns to a dead tree, he will blame me.

Who put the palms in? Maybe you can call the contractor and have him take a look.

If your friend put them in then he should tell you what to do instead of leaving you high and dry.

I have potted palms and palms in the ground.
The potted ones are struggling, the inground look great.

I've talked to the nursery.. yellow leaves, etc.

they say it's mostly too much water,
but also seems too little, or too much fertilizer, or too little,
yada yada yada. I know, it's tough.

I'd do his just like you're doing yours. good luck.

I don't water my potted palms when it rains this much..
I don't much water in summer nor winter

sylvesters tend to brown they are first planted just make sure that they get a minimum of gallons of water a day as the size of the base is it in clay or sandy soil clay they could be drowning in sand they could be to dry did the contracter that installed take off the bag very common problem did the get the air pockets out when installed did they water them in real well or did they just throw it in the whole and bury it?

Not sure what they did. I turned off his water hoses timer three days ago. His brother is back in town and I'll let him make the decisions about what to do. I did my job as the tree sitter. Thanks for the tips Mr. Greenthumb.
