Bad yard workers
 

WE hired a company to do yard work We live in cottonwood villas. Well they have not come back to fix a problem. They keep saying they will come tomorow. And they never show, They never return phone calls. They lie to our face. The name of the company is Southern Sensations landscaping.

one company and does it all

I have been using Kirk's Lawn Service who came highly recommended. I recently received a letter from The Villages with recommended companies for lawn care, landscapers, termite and pest control companies and was pleased to see John Kirk was on the list. He not only does mowing but also fertilizing and power washing. When I met him the first thing he gave me were copies of his license and insurance papers. He does not require any money up front and no contract to sign. His number is 352-348-9725.

We used Southern Sensations also. They took our money and never came back with our tree. We contacted the Sumter County office for crimes again senior citizens. Can't remember the exact name of the department but it is a branch of the Florida Attorney General's office and is based in the Sumter police department on 466. They told us this company has a lot of complaints against it. After about 4 months, they were able to get our money back, but it was a struggle.

thanks for the tip about reporting to Sumter Sheriff. we will do that today. It would be good if the Villages had a list of these type of operators

The Villages has a list of the good guys! The bad ones come and go.

And what's worse, they come back with a different name to run their little scams until they get figured out. Then they disappear for a while only to return with a still different name.

It's tough to be trusting. But the advice to never pay in advance is a good one. (Not directed at the OP )

We also contracted Southern Sensations Landscaping to keep our lawn mowed and paid them up front for 1 year's service back in February 2012...and of course they have never once mowed the lawn. Thank you for the advice to call the Sumer County Sheriff Office. I will do so today.

Seniors vs Crime maintains a log of problem companies. They recommend that you call them before you hire someone. It's easier to prevent you from being ripped off than to try to get your money back.

Landscape Archeology/ Southern Sensations Landscaping
 

Someone knocked on our door whose names were Jessica and Tim. They were landscapers that called themselves Landscape Archeologists or Archeology. Which is the name that was on their van. I had recognized them earlier in a van with a sign that said Southern Sensations. After reading your posts and many other bad posts about this company i had asked if they were the same people and they just ran right away.

My question is.... How do people find these guys and then hire them??
