Sea Breeze swim lessons
 

I recommend Diane Castle's swim lessons @ Seabreeze Rec Center. After 2 lessons (of a series of six) I have lost my fear of water. Although I may never be Mark Spitz I feel confident I will be able to conquer something I never thought possible. For $63 it is well worth the investment.

Thanks for the info, Tom. My husband is also wary of the water and I've been trying to convince him to take this class. Your post is definitely helping!!!

I'm also taking swimming lessons with Dianne Castle in the session that follows Tom's. Hope to improve enough to be swimming laps soon. Very supportive teacher.

Tom and Golf-Tinker - kudos to you both for "taking the plunge" and getting into swimming. Its a great sport - good for the body and good aerobics. I too took lessons from Dianne, and she's the best. I went from being a complete non-swimmer to doing pretty well at lap swimming. She is very good at helping people get over their fear of the water. And with the pools being heated in the winter, its a sport you can do year-round. Good luck!

Thanks Taj44. I agree with you. Being able to swim will open my world with a new dimension. Can't wait for the next lesson.

Lake Ronkonkoma
 

What :shocked::shocked: You never swam in Lake Ronkonkoma ? ? It's been over 30 years for me and I'm still water logged.....

Lake Ronkonkoma is not the beautiful lake it used to be. Besides -- legend of the curse has it that someone drowns every year. I don't want to become a statistic and another drowning victim. I feel, being six feet tall, it would be difficult to drown in a five foot pool. I'll play it safe.

I am a bit of a swimmer myself ....swimming at least 1/2 mile every day. Congratulations for learning how to swim the right way. It's never too late to learn...and IMHO it is the best exercise going....easy on the joints yet great head-to-toe exercise. I'm proud of you....and I look forward to seeing you in the pool. (Look for that very tall blond gal who is listening to her swimming iPod while doing laps!) Keep up the good work!
