New Villages Cable Company
 

Does anybody know about "SHY SAT 20" This is a new cable company in The Villages. They advertise on page A16 in todays Daily Sun. As most know of my displeasure with Comcast, I am looking for a new company. Although I have learned of a few options, is SKY SAT 20, another option?

Thats a front for the Dish network, who also has terrible customer service. Direct TV my favorite

Tom, we had the triple play deal with Comcast while we were still up north. When we moved down full time, we replaced Comcast TV with Directv, and Comcast telephone with Ooma, while keeping Comcast internet. While I know that you can temporarily lose signal during severe weather, I personally feel the picture quality is worth any inconvenience of signal drop. As far as Ooma goes, have the Premier package at $9.95 a month and love it. Had our number ported for $40, and got the Premier at $50 for a year, so it works out to $4.17 a month for the first year, and $9.95 after that.

We have had Comcast for over two years and have never had a problem. The customer service is wonderful!

I presently pay $152 per month up north to get what I want.

Hi 2BNTV, I don't mind stating the cost. I do not have MLB yet, as they usually offer a special later in the season. As for the NFL, my son gets that, so I will split it with him and swap receivers. I believe I have the choice ultra package with Directv, and I have HD, the sports package, HBO and Showtime, 2 HD DVR's, and 1 HD receiver, and SWIM (record in one room and watch in all rooms). That is about $123 including taxes and with all applicable discounts. I pay about $50 a month for Comcast internet, and Ooma is either $3.47 or 9.95 a month, depending on what package you want. I did just order the Ooma Premier, and I got it for $4.17 a month the 1st year, and it has a wealth of cool features. My triple play package with Comcast was $134 with one HD box and no boxes in 2 bedrooms, for the first 6 months, and I'm not sure what it was going up to, but IMO, Directv programing and picture quality was better than cable. Also, I did not have any issues with Comcast customer service, but did have to go through 3 boxes in 11 months before I switched over.

Thank you so very much for sharing your experience. I will have to check the sports packages, (MLB and NFL), but it is still cheaper than cablevision up north.

Being a sports nut, this seems to me the best option. I really don't want to have to wait until my teams appear on the regional networks which happens only sporadically.

We bought a Roku box (a $50-$100 one time purchase) and MLB through Roku was something like $110/season. The savings over Comcast MLB almost paid for the ROKU box in one year.

ROKU is streaming and we use it for Netflix and other streaming services, some for a fee, most free. You have to have a wireless router on your computer for it to work.

Yes, Why isn't there a Time Warner in The Villages! I dread having to pick a new provider when I move there in October.

You can also do this with Apple TV. I was thinking of dropping DirecTV with the MLB package in favor of this but I find that I enjoy time shifting the baseball games with the DVR. Does Roku provide any kind of recording capability or do you have to watch the games in real time?
