why so many posts about blood donations

I am new to this forum. Why do I see so many threads about blood donations? I guess I expected "support' groups such as RA, arthritis, different types of disability, things like that. I don't think blood donation is a support group. Although I am a multi gallon donator!

I am involved in a yearly blood drive and give regularly. A dear friend needed transfusions ......in my book, that is support.....
