So, why does your skill level change?

(In the case of men.) Why is it that when a men is under 55 and is proficient in what he does, he is considered "a skilled tradesman" or "a master craftsman." But as soon as he retires, it is said, "He likes to tinker." :cryin2:

I feel your pain.... but what that means to me is, many projects get started, but rarely finished.

I have 2 friends. One is a master carpenter and the other is a tool and dye maker. The carpenter likes to tinker with metal working and the metal worker likes to tinker in carpentry. Neither likes to tinker in his previous occupation. Wonder why?

I had to re-read your post. At first I though you said tinkle instead of tinker! :22yikes:

I tinker at golf....gave up working on my golf game as it did me no good:D

Stereotyping by youngsters who haven't gotten to that point. If they're lucky, maybe one day, they, too, will be able to "tinker."..... :D

Talk Host Should Rename Himself?

It seems to me that Talkhost was part of tne previous administration. Hence, should he not change his user name? Talkhost served a role that is not emcompassed in his current position that is not unlike ours: interested TVers, lurkers, etc.

Huh? I use the name Talk Host on every forum I am on. Am I misunderstanding you? I was a radio talk show host for over 40 years. I'll stand by my screen name whether I'm an administrator, lurker, or contributor.

Do you know if the new administrator has asked me to "hang around" and stimulate conversation here.

It's partly because those who are over 55 have a set budget (can't print money when we go in the hole) and don't want to hire them for "skilled tradesman" union wages, but as "handyman". The handymen I've hired are very happy working for themselves, on their own hours and terms.

Independence is what this nation was founded on.

WOW TalkHost...

...you're playing a pretty rough room here.

I think after working 40+ years as "Skilled Trades" and "Master Craftsmen" we've earned the right to work on our own terms and and in our own time.

This of course is in exchange for a job "Well Done"..."Completed Ahead of Schedule"...and "Below Budget".

You dont hear those "terms" much anymore.

I say we packup the dive gear...hopp a "Cattle Boat" out of Palm Beach and ..."Tinker" around in the ocean for a few days.

Doood (What say ye')? Dave

Skyguy:

Another great icon.

Me too and then I thought of this poem because my aunt had this plaque in her bathroom.

If you sprinkle.
When you tinkle
Be a sweetie
And wipe the seatie.
