Cars... Do you have one?

I understand there are people who don't have cars in The Villages.

Are there a lot of you? Do you rent a car for day trips.

What is the cost of renting a car for a day or two if you don't own one. (of course there would be insurance tacked on)

Do you wish you had kept your car?

If you have your car.... how much do you actually drive it?

We plan to be a two cart, car and scooter household and I'm wondering if we really need the car?

Oh... and if you get off topic.... It's OK... Have fun!

Since moving to TV, we're a 2 cart; one car family. When in TV, the car is driven very little, but we use it for road trips. Have used it to go back up north a couple times.

We're headed to Orlando for the day, so we're trying to decide...golf cart or car... :D

Rock on.....

angiefox10 08-14-2011 10:06 AM

Bump!

That was it??? 88,000 people live in TV and only one person replied...

HELLO????

Is this mic on?????

Hi! Angie!! We are planning to be a 1 car, 2 cart household. I would need a car to travel north, and also for big shopping to Target, etc. Also--beach trips would be by car. I will be fine if it sits in the garage and we only use it when we have to!

cappyjon431 08-14-2011 10:21 AM

One car and one cart (but it's a street legal cart).

jebartle 08-14-2011 10:34 AM

I always wondered about this also....

We had two cars and one cart and was jostling cars back and forth for NO apparent reason, got rid of one car but a scary thought getting rid of both.....Our only car is a two seater (I'm social but not the ole boy:22yikes: - just kidding) Could not rationalize keeping big car when trips are VERY infrequent and cost of renting a car much cheaper than insurance and tag....You have to give TV credit for this even being a consideration....I know there are Villagers out there with this scenario!...

One car and two carts. Put a lot more miles on the carts than the car, but, would not be comfortable without a car. Extreme cold weather and severe TStorms are two reasons to have the Car on campus and excursions and local shopping, e.g. Sam's Club, necessitate a car.

Whatever works for you....

Fighting a cold and skipped church :-)

We plan to have one car (wife's Sebring convertible) and two carts. But now that someone mentioned renting a car, that might be a consideration as well. With several friends already there, we could always join up with them for big shopping trips or even borrow their car. Day trips are always more fun with friends (IMHO).

However, when it comes to insurance it is always cheaper to bundle coverage, i.e. home, car, cart, etc.

That being said, will probably always have a car. Like previously mentioned - cold weather, severe storms, etc.

Finally, you can't beat a convertible ride in the countryside during Spring and Fall!!

Has anyone considered car-pooling?

If you only drive occasionally, but can't face not having a car "in case", then sharing one with a few neighbours may be cheaper than renting.

Insurance could be a problem, though.

We have two carts and one old car. It does the trick for us. Rarely use the car, only for Sam's and to eat at Oakwood !

Posh 08 08-14-2011 11:38 AM

I'm selling my 4x4 p/u before we come. No need for that down there, and that is cart money. She won't sell her mustang convertible so in the garage that goes. The Honda will be her everyday use vehicle out of TV

Bettiboop 08-14-2011 11:50 AM

Our plans are to downsize to one vehicle and add two carts. As for the vehicle we will probably keep the Honda Ridgeline. It is comfortable for travel, handy to haul larger items, AND great for tailgating too! :pepper2::MOJE_whot: Hubs keeps kidding me that he wants one of those new roadster thingys with the sidecar for me. :a20:

A scooter sounds fun!
