Looking for suggestions on upgrades or options for the Iris.
We are meeting with the design team in one month to build our new Iris model. :D What would be the top things you would add / upgrade if you could OR what options did you add that you are glad you did.
There is now an option to add a powder room in the extra area near the washer and dryer. Not sure I really need a third bathroom . . . any thoughts? Thanks! |
I have one thought that might appeal to you: Extra outlets.
Additional outside outlets can be handy, if you think you may want patio lights or holiday decorations placed in a particular spot, a fountain later, an outdoor floor lamp or TV, etc. on the lanai. You may want to add to the number they typically install. Having a light fixture with switch in a closet or pantry that doesn't have one makes life easy, too. Our computer printer is going to live on a shelf in the guest room/office closet. Our next project will be to have the outlet for it installed. Would have been neat to have been able to build that in ahead of time. May your new place be wonderful. |
A coat closet! THAT should be standard in ALL the models!

Make sure your garage is wider than standard even if you have a cart extension........you'll never be sorry..............mine was widened 4x17 and its great..............

iris add-ons
I have an Iris and wish I would have extended the lanai. I added the arched window in the front bedroom and love it.

We had not thought about extra outlets, but that would be a great idea. Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time with the design team! |

I just returned from a whirlwind trip picking out furniture, golf cart, washer & dryer....firming up plantation shutter order, etc. The highlight was FINALLY meeting my wonderful online friend (now my forever friend) and her family...THE BEST!!! I digress....I extended the lanai 4'4" and added a 4' side stretch to the garage. It made a huge difference...especially to the lanai. Go for it if space allows. I do love that Iris! |
Can you get extra outlets and coat closets in a new home?
|
The garage and lanai - the bigger the better! Install the wider garage door. Also, 2 foot bumps all around makes all the difference in the world. Almost a Premier on a beer budget.

Don't like GE, but this shows some options, good luck. Remember you can't take it with you! |

First of all Lilac Home I mis-spelled
We were bound and determined to build a Iris . I stretched the lani 4 feet the garage 4 feet, rounded corners on the drywall. Up graded cabinets. Floor Tile and or Hardwood can be done later. Keep the Cost down for taxes. Then I looked at the garage size and home specs. You gain 7 inches with the frame vs BLock. You can insulate the frame wall in a garage, Block is Block your done once it's up. I'm a CarGuy live in the garage I fight for every inch of available space. LOL We saved 10k building the same home frame vs Block . This allowed us to bump out the front bedroom, were banking the money keeping the price down for taxes and will add additional insulation, a birdgage and change the flooring when we move in. Just a suggestion, I was bound and very determined to build a Iris and changed my mind at the last minute. Both can be your beautiful home. At the last min I could change my mind back! Have 6 months to figure it all out. You have been given some excellent advise from the above posters. |
