living room window coverings

I'm so excited about our new home in Pennecamp and can't wait to finally have it decorated but it can be a daunting task for someone who was totally lost in her home ec class. Can anyone give me some ideas on what window treatments are pretty, not outragously expensive and fairly sun blocking for the huge living room sliding glass door? We're putting in wood blinds on the other windows.

Thanks!

Well here goes nothing! Will try to send pics

We obviously have plantation shutters, so curtains not functional just a window dressing, so probably doesn't apply but an option:

Ditto - plantation shutters, classy, efficient and affordable! We loved working with 48 Hour Blinds.........

Plantation shutters really look nice. That's We're putting plantation shutters in all other rooms but I'm not sure how that would work for the living room sliders..they're at least 9 ft. long.

Love the shutters... Should we get blinds for the new house that come with the house... Or just have them put in right away?

I mean... When we were planning our home, the sales person added blinds... and that's good, but I LOVE these shutters and really want them... Why have the blinds put in when I know I'm going to change to shutters right away...

AngieFox10 - we ordered the shutters right away but it took a few weeks before they were ready so go with the blinds until the shutters are ready! Good luck.

You will save

enough on utility bills to make up the difference on the plantation shutters...We were fortunate to buy a pre-owned with plantation shutters already installed.

While looking at Next Day Blinds I saw sliding plantation shutters and woven panels that can be used for the living and breakfast area. Both options were attractive. I really liked the look of the sliding plantation panels, but the frame seemed to stick out quite a bit. Has anyone seen these in the living or breakfast area?

LOVE the plantation shutters

If you have the ability to have a choice now....put in the plantation shutters instead of blinds! You can leave the top half partly opened for sunshine and the bottom half closed for privacy (like in the bedrooms) if you want. Totally LOVE them! Also worked with 48 Hr. Blinds.

Window treatments

Looking for cornices for windows. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks much.

I just talked to Rick with 48 hr. Blinds. He's going to give me an estimate for plantation shutters for the whole house including Bi Folds for the living room sliding glass window and Bi Pass for the one in the Breakfast room. I'll probably pass out when I hear the estimate, but they definitely give the best decorator look. I'll tell my husband we'll lower our heating and air conditioning cost..hopefully, he'll buy that.

Ahhh the excitement of decorating your new home.......

I am sewing valences for the great room and dining room. I bought the drapes at Penneys in Ocala.

I hope to heaven it is gonna look right. I am in my panicked stage right now.

Penneys is having a huge online window covering sale. I have mine narrowed down to 2...just need to get hubby to look at them. Very good prices..I think the ones I picked (thermal and room darkening) were 75% off.

Window Treatments

We hired a decorator, she made us window treatments. They are beautiful. Our home is located in Liberty Park if you want to stop over and see them.
