Great, great video Katz. Wish I could see the rest of it. What a naive idealist Phil Donahue showed himself to be. Milton's remark to him at the end is one for the ages. The sad part is, that none of it changed Phil's naive perspective, and it's him and those like him who are backing the "hope and change" movement of today.

Exactly! Same people just like Phil who still just don't get how hard others work, but we are to trust them to make our lives better. Mr. Pajamas said the exact same thing...sad. He threw in a few expletives, but sad just the same.

I have not heard anything from or about Phil Donahue in such a long time that I actually thought he was dead.

I do want to ask Richie, Katz, and anyone else that if they believe there should be absolutely no government intervention in business or any labor unions in businesses. This would take us back to the era of Rockefeller, Astor, Vanderbilt and the other great "business barons" of the late 1800's and early 1900's. It would be grand to live like they did at their Newport "summer cottages" or estates like Biltmore.

Milton Friedman was one of the greatest minds. He is one of my favorites. I'm glad you enjoyed. Also, Thomas Sowell, a friend and co-worker of Friedman, is just as interesting to read and listen to, KatzPajamas.

Class envy?

Have you ever visited the "summer cottages" at Newport, Rhode Island, or visited the Biltmore Estate in Asheville? They are the most beautiful homes you could imagine. I have been to them and really recommend a visit to see how these "captains of industry" lived.

Class envy? I don't know about that but I am sure I could be persuaded to try that lifestyle.

Buggy, you really need to re-read your post. It's pretty funny. Class envy? A little bit of coveting thy neighbor's goods in your post. Pretty much defines "class envy".

If you are able to afford that lifestyle, who should be able to stop you? Who am I to know and/or comment on how benevolent you are (maybe even quietly and anonymously) with your hard earned money...Judge not, lest you be judged as someone recently and so graciously reminded me!

Wow, Preacher Richie is giving sermons now! I don't think saying that it looked like a good lifestyle and that I would not mind living that way is coveting my neighbor's goods. If I was obsessing about it and trying to figure out ways to get it dishonestly or to swindle them out of their mansions, that would be wrong.

Anyhow, Richie, I am glad you are looking out for the spirit of Buggy.

Yes, I toured the Biltmore a few years ago. It was beautiful. I especially loved the woodwork through out the whole massive building. Technology, they were innovators way ahead of their time (1896?) They had their very own bowling alley and they had a swimming pool with under water lighting . They actually created the town Asheville NC. And they put thousands of skilled laborers to work at above the normal wages. Fascinating history.

From what I understand, there was many good times for everybody during construction. Many people enjoyed an elevated standard of living. Many of the people who work there are relatives of the original help. And there was no unions. Imagine.
