Brits to try "geo-engineering" to slow global warming. What could go wrong?
 

The Brits are pumping 2.5 Million dollars into an experiment which will eventually pump chemical particulates into the atmosphere to attempt to mimic a volcanic eruption in order to reflect sunlight away from the earth and back into space in order to affect the rate of global warming.

Skeptics think this may play havoc with the natural order of things and affect weather systems and farming.

Do we want a government unilaterally deciding to pump chemicals into the atmosphere and affecting "God knows" what?

India and China don't give a sick dingo's kidney about the environment. They're all about economic growth. The Chinese perhaps less so as they ARE making investments in solar, wind and other renewables but a lot of their energy is "coal, baby, coal" based.

Have you seen the rivers in India?

Remember all the stories on Chinese smog before the Olympics?

Not quite the same things. Apples and Oranges. The Brits want to directly attempt to engineer the earth's environment and the consequences be damned.

You're referring to more ecologically primitive societies not caring if they "urinate in their drinking water", so to speak. Not quite the same thing.

Whatever the Brits are doing may end up affecting the vast farmlands of China also. This is what I'm asking you to think about.

My thinking is that it's going to be disastrous in ways we can't yet imagine.

It's one thing to try various methods to stop pumping crap into the atmosphere. However, you'd think with our experiences in trying to engineer nature in the past (which resulted in lots of invasive species problems) we might NOT just jump into things with little or no review - especially trying it unilaterally.

Exactly!!; This has to be stopped, at least until there are more exhaustive studies to assess the ramifications of this theory before it's put into practical action.

I'm in on this one, and that makes for a full house of agreement. I knew it would happen eventually. I am tying to think of one post made by djplong that I did not agree with. Not sure if I am as smart as he is or he is as dumb as I am. Only kidding Mr long. Engineering a world climate sound very scary to me.
