Another question (I have tons of them!!)
 

I know this has been asked, reasked and answered but here goes...when buying new, are there upgrades (besides stretching, etc)...are there various grades of carpet, hardwood, cupboards etc? Is it more or less, depending on the type of flooring, carpet vs ceramic vs wood? I see some new homes pictured with basic cupboards, others with more decorative, including wine racks. Again, probably dumb questions but just trying to get a handle. My husband has bought new before and built the house we are in, I have never had new construction. The one time I was considering new, I was amazed that EVERYTHING costs more...including over $500 to have trim put around a door. Thanks!

Yes, Trish......there are plenty of upgrades. I remember when I built this house up north 5 years ago, I said my favorite 4-letter word had 7 letters: UPGRADE! It wasn't too bad when I went thru the process at TV. The quality of what they offer in the basic designer home is very good. But....I did a fair amount of that famous "upgrade" word.....and from what I hear, it is all a good thing. I'll see it for myself.......next Sunday. Woo Hoo!

Buying a new house here is like buying a very basic car. Everything is basic and if you want better, you pay a lot for it.

My advice is to buy a re-sale where you see exactly what you get. We bought a re-sale and it has more upgrades than you can shake a stick at - at a lower price - and bond almost entirely paid off.

There are a couple of very nice designer homes (Lantana models) for sale right now by Villages Properties on Talley Ridge Drive in the Village of Glenbrook. Great homes with golf course frontage and water views. One of them has a $2,300 bond and the other, I believe, is paid off.

I have found it to be ALOT cheaper to get the basics to close then upgrade after closing for ALOT less $$'s!!
