Did anyone know Betty Skelton?

This article was published in the Sunday Honolulu Star Advertiser (do not know why). The Honolulu Star Advertiser pick it up from an article in the Los Angeles Times reported by Elaine Woo. I wonder how many other people like Betty Skelton live quitely in TV.

Wow. You never know who your neighbors are, huh?

Thanks for this link.
What a lady.
Wish I were already living in the Villages and could have known her.

Wow. I built a model airplane of her "Little Stinker" Pitts biplane when I was a teenager. Sure would have liked to meet her around here.

A friend from the Doggie Doo Run Run used to go out to dinner with her and her husband once in a while. I had been surprised to learn she lived in the Villages.

Super Achievers

I bet there are more super achievers in here than we will ever know. I played golf with a man who just told me he was an architect.
The other men golfing said he was a famous architect and one of his works was the Football Hall of Fame. (Sorry can't remember his name-I'm terrible with names.)
I also played golf with a man who had played basketball for the USA at the Olympics and who knows where else. These guys are so humble. I bet most of the people living here are so humble that you never know their accomplishments in their earlier days.

Hats off to Betty Skelton.

I never heard of Betty Skelton but the article said she was an amazing woman and I totally agree.

She seemed to live life on her own terms.

RIP - Betty

Hats off to Betty Skelton.

The architect of the HOF is Bob Forsythe. Here is a link to a audio presentation by Bob. http://www.profootballhof.com/multim...tect-forsythe/

I believe a lot of people who have lived a "public" life may want to get off the express train after retirement and live their life in a more simple and relaxed manner. That may be why they do not advertise who they were before retirement and moving to TV.

Thanks

Thanks Virtual Geezwe for posting.
I think the fact that he just made an audio with his picture means he isn't trying to go less public.
I think when he was playing a round of golf with a stranger, he just wasn't a bragger. Seemed like a real nice guy.
As a matter of fact, I think that sums up most the people I meet. They are not braggers.

Her obit and picture is in today's Lake County (CA) Record Bee

National Obituaries
Fastest woman on earth dies at 85
The Villages, Fla (AP)

Betty Skelton Erde, an aviator and auto racing pioneer once called the fastest woman on earth, had died. She was 85.

I'm surprised the local Villages newspaper didn't run this newspaper article. There are many talented people living in TV, and Betty was obviously a woman to be admired. I remember last year there was a famous movie star visiting his brother in TV who had retired there.
