RIP Delores Hope

Dolores Hope, the widow of actor-comedian Bob Hope, died of natural causes at her Los Angeles home Monday, her family said. She was 102.

Bob Hope lived to be 100 and passed on in 2003.

I recall seeing a birth certificate for Bob Hope---Leslie ... --- who was a couple of years older than he later claimed to be and had been married before to another woman. Nevertheless, he and Delores were a couple that WORKED!

Saw Bob Hope and Ann Margaret in Guam in the late 60s at a USO show. Great free show for all the servicemen on Guam at the time. I believe Bob and wife were one of the largest land owners in California. I wonder what happened to all the land they owned?

Dolores has spent most of her life giving to others...

...her husband.

What a great legacy to leave to your children... Not only were they a wonderful couple, but to have parents who lived into their 100's. They were both an example to the world.

May their lives live on through their example.

According to an Forbes article on Google by Peter Newcombe:

Reporter Richard Behar spent weeks tracking down Mr. Hope's land holdings. After consulting with a handful of real estate brokers and land appraisers (as well as poring over reams of county tax records) all we could find was about 8,600 acres, much of it inhospitable canyon land. For all the talk of Hope's massive real estate portfolio, it turned out to be just another Hollywood myth.

By the mid-1980s Mr. Hope, then in his 80s, was already tidying up his estate and liquidating much of his property in an orderly manner. Forbes ultimately estimated his remaining land holdings to be worth just $85 million. Throw in another $30 million he had in miscellaneous investments and you arrive at a net worth of $115 million--not quite the $200 million we had estimated a year earlier.

But there is also this more recent article which indicates a mutch larger value to his estate and is the largest California landowner.

I didn't post the whole article but your link confirms the part I didn't post as is said the real estate Bob Hope bought was ruining the look of that area as I believe it said he built a lot of strip/mini malls.
