Washer/Dryer Recommendation Wanted
We recently returned from TV to buy our home and select all the finishes and appliances. Closing is scheduled for the end of this year. The only appliances that are not coming with our home are a washer and dryer. I'd be interested in your recommendations. Please let me know how you like the washer/dryer you selected. I'm thinking of getting stackable so I'll have more floor space in the laundry room so I'll have room for my sewing machine.

washer/dryer recommendations
I did have a stacked Frigidaire washer and dryer in my previous homes. If space is a problem for you, the stacked units are very nice. Currently I do not have my appliances stacked because I did not have a choice, but I wish I did.
Also, you may have to check to see if it is possible to stack them in your new home because there may be a problem with the location of the dryer vent. We had this situation when we were having our home built here in TV about 10 years ago. I don't know today what has to be done. Just trying to give you a 'heads-up' to inquire about this. Hope this helps! |
I had the GE front loads stacked in Mass. sold them with the house and bought them again here at Appliance Direct but have them side-by-side on the extra storage drawers. They could not be stacked in the Gardenia because of cabinets installed on the wall which I think is the case in a lot of models. I think they are easier to load and unload this way. The dryer is not too high to see what's left in it and the washer is not as low as before installed on the storage drawer so you don't have to bend so low.

Don't ask us, ask consumer reports. I bought an energy efficient GE and it ate my cloths. I now have energy efficient LG front loaders and I love them.

I have a Wirlpool front loader that has been flawless for several years. It is so quiet that you do not hear anything except the water flow even standing next to it. Stay away from anything GE unless you want to be on a first name basis with your repair man.

GE-
Our last home we bought all GE profile appliances. Washer, Dryer, Stove, Refrigerator, Dishwasher-
All failed within year one - five. The refrgerator gave us a house sale present! Day before new owners signed. It again for the third time had its compressor fail. A good bye $400 bill I see TV now has no more GE- |
Did you have a home warranty? Thanks for the reminder, I have to get one on my house. They aren't paid for until the closing when the house sells but it protects the seller during the course of the listing. Our open house was terrible today, one couple...ugh...oh well, at least I have a REALLY clean house :).

Trish... It just takes one! :icon_wink: |
LG front loaders. Quiet, efficient, work great and use less water.

The CYV we bought came with GE. So far, with little use, no problems. Up North we have LG. Love - Hate relationship. :undecided: Wife doesn't like them because it takes so long to wash a load, between the starting and stopping between cycles. Also, if we run a load using bleach, we have to make sure the dispenser it taken out and rinsed carefully, because all of the bleach is not dispersed. Have ruined towels and garments because of that.

New homes have four hole receptacles for dryers.
We moved our old Maytags from Ohio and they aren't adjusting very well yet. The new receptacle for dryers in newly built homes have four holes and the dryers have three prongs. Sweetie got a new cord but is not able to attach it. Our lease is up Thursday on rental where there is a wonderful front load washer and dryer on storage drawers ...so this has to be solved soon or we will be called the dirty neighbors.
If our Maytags ever die...I would be tempted to have the front load duo on storage drawers like in rental. |
Appliances
Recently had to have a repairman look at our washing machine. He was a factory repairman for many years and knows his stuff. He recommended appliances made by Whirlpool. That would include many other brands that Whirlpool manufactures.
