U.S. Invasion of Mexico?
Rick Perry caused a stir at his final tour stop in New Hampshire by saying that he would consider sending U.S. troops to Mexico to fight drug violence.
“It may require our military in Mexico,” Perry said in answer to a question about drug violence along the southern border. In the back yard of New Hampshire gubernatorial contender and tea-party activist Ovide Lamontagne, Perry offered no details, and a spokesman, Robert Black, said afterward that Perry would work with the Mexican government. But Black declined to specify whether Perry is amenable to sending troops into Mexico with or without the country’s consent. “If he were president he would do what it takes,” Black said. The remarks prompted speculation about exactly what Perry meant and what the implications might be for the nation’s relationship with Mexico. The issue also opens the door to scrutiny of Perry’s position on U.S. military intervention generally. The governor has criticized Obama’s management of military operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere; on Saturday, at the same campaign appearance where Perry made his remarks about Mexico, he promised never to send troops into another country without a detailed plan for winning and withdrawing quickly. Pressed to explain Perry’s remarks, Black, the spokesman, offered this: “Never say never.” A New Hampshire Republican voter was quoted as,"...with his "invade Mexico" plan, I can no longer tell if Perry is merely pandering to stupidity or is genuinely stupid himself. Could it be both? Either way, he won't be getting my vote." |
Can you tell me why anyone in their right mind would support this gentleman at all?

What a great opportunity to create the North American Union. Something that we don't need. This man needs to be watched very carefully as he is just another criminal, One World Government hack.

You further ascribe an anti-Perry comment to a nameless New Hampshire Republican. You didn't mention he was a commentator on a blog and identified himself as Sage Thrasher. I didn't see a party affiliation. If you have it, I will gladly stand corrected. I am personally not convinced that Perry is the best candidate, but clouding the issue by posting disingenuous "cut and pastes" really doesn't move the ball for me. I certainly would want to hear a more detailed version of his position that is unencumbered by partisan hip shooters and sound bites. We have sent troops to combat drug cartels all over the world including Mexico, Columbia, Afghanistan and a myriad of illegal drug producing countries. The word invasion was never used. Americans have been killed as a result of the Mexican cartel drug wars on both sides of the border. In as much as you have discovered how to Google, cut and paste, I seriously suggest you give the topic an empirical research effort, evaluate both sides of the argument and then......make an informed decision and/or a post that doesn't expose a bias. Cabo35,
Bravo! Once again, exposing the Liberal modus operandi. Thank you! |

He looks a lot like Fred Thompson....flash in the pan. No coping here but then again not so liberal. |
After having just moved away from the Mexican border and being a close neighbor to Texas, Perry is not all that he is cracked up to be. He speaks from both sides of his mouth. Plays to open borders folks and also to "Let's secure the border" groups. Can't have it both ways. That is an "either/or" situation.
So far out of the gang of GOP hopefuls have not found one that I like all that much. Have to wait until the herd thins a bit. Cain talks a good platform but will he actually get any of it done. The rest are all old has beens, have to wait and see if Christie jumps in then watch the lib media tear him up apart. Will be interesting to see who survives after the start of the primaries. |

The only thing I might add to further clarify is something you touched on. What Gov. Perry EXACTLY said in this matter was: “It may require our military in Mexico working in concert with them to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off of our border and to destroy their network; I don’t know all the different scenarios that would be out there, but I think it is very important for us to work with them to keep that country from failing.” Gov. Perry is obviously talking about a cooperative arrangement with the Mexican government to protect our country and to help preserve the Mexican government itself from falling. At least someone is addressing the escalating violence and threat to our nation in a powerful way. |
Off topic?

I do not agree that Rick Perry has said anything out of the ordinary. He has spoken the truth on most issues. I would agree he needs to tone down some of the firebrand but at least he speaks directly to his beliefs.
There are two competing cartels in Mexico that are creating havoc along the borders and into the USA. Perry's suggestion of aiding Mexico with troops is what we may need. Certainly it will curtail drugs being brought to the US His statement suggesting social security is a ponzi scheme is correct. He never said he would dump it. he did say he would make adjustments which is what this program needs His approach at helping young women deter cervical cancer may have been wrong but was done with good intentions. I do not know if Perry will be my choice but I do believe that any Republican candidate that has an appreciable chance of defeating Obama will continue being diabolically attacked by liberals often with misinformation or down right lies. What I do believe is that any Republican candidate running will beat Obama |
You honestly think that New Ginrich could beat Obama? Dream on. If the GOP wants to retake the WH get a candidate that is not tainted the way Newie boy is. He is nothing but a sleazy bag and always will be.
