glaucoma specialist needed

Moving to the Villages full time at the end of the month and the hubby needs a good glaucoma specialist. Any suggestions? Must be an MD. Thanks!

Ocala Eye has a very good reputation - they have an office in The Villages. Also, about 2.5 hours away is the Mayo Clinic. Here is a link to Ocala Eye: http://www.ocalaeye.com/html/glaucoma.html

Ocala Eye...has a doctor who specializes in glaucoma. BUT I'd say any opthamologist there would be a good bet. Give them a call if your insurance works with them.

glaucoma specialist

Jenajd, Do you have the name of the specialist at Ocala Eye? My husband has had glaucoma since he was around 42 (inherited from his mother) and has had laser surgery twice and is on drops twice a day and will be needing a good specialist. We plan on moving to The Villages within a year and want to get some doctors lined up. Thanks

Dr mohammed elmallah - glaucoma specialist - ocala eye

I don't remember the specialists name I was thinking of but it was a young woman. She gave a seminar a few months ago and it was very good. I have been tracked or glaucoma so would go to her if I didn't already have a "relationship" seeing Dr. Elmallah who is also very good.

I think it is Dr Ahmed.

I go to Dr. Ahmed at Ocala Eye. I have Scleroderma and my eyes need to be monitored because of the drug Plaquenil that I take. I liked her and received a very thorough exam.

Glaucoma specialist

I just had cataract extraction with Ocala Eye...Dr. ElMallah. He is the most wonderful person and an exceptionally fine MD. I am a retired Nurse Practitioner and checked him out thoroughly. You won't go wrong with him.

Dr. Morris is the glaucoma specialist at Ocala Eye who I see. He is excellent!! Think there is another glaucoma specialist in the practice. Very professional practice, techs are great!!!! Call early as think if you want Dr. Morris there may be a 3 month wait for new patients but worth the wait, he is the BEST!!

Mid Florida Eye (Summerfield) - Dr Panzo & his team are well respected in the area - they treated my mom for glaucoma, now treating my sister & brother. Dr Panzo is excellent and has written many papers and gives frequent talks on his expertise. Highly recommended.

The link to Ocala Eye I provided previously lists their two glaucoma specialists: two fellowship trained glaucoma specialists, Michael Morris, M.D. F.A.C.S. and Mohammed K. ElMallah, M.D.

Ocala Eye

My husband and I have gone to Ocala Eye the last couple of years and the staff and doctors are nice but every appointment is a minimum of 1 1/2 hrs to 3 hrs. Even if you have the first appointment of the day at 7:30AM you end up waiting over an hour for a doctor to show up as they are always late. That means by the afternoon they are really backed up and appts. are 2-3 hrs each. We are going to start looking for another opthamologist to go to where the doctor shows up on time and you can get in and out in a reasonable time.

I agree that there is a wait with Ocala Eye. My first time(s) there were what has been stated here. My insurance is changing after the 1st of the year so can't go there anymore so will go to Mid-Florida Eye and hope I can get in with Dr. Panzo. With eye issues...I would wait to see the best. I just bring a book and plan for the wait!!

Mid-Florida Eye

I am so glad that you mentioned Mid-Florida Eye. After I made my post I researched other Eye Doctors and just decided my husband and I are going to try Mid-Florida Eye. I hope we both like our new Eye Doctor.
