cars passing golf carts
Hi,
I am new to the villages and have a question about traffic rules. If a golf cart is traveling on a road with no golf cart lane is it legal to pass them on the left when conditions permit? Any help is appreciated :) Bruce |

First of all, welcome to TOTV. You'll find folks willing to answer virtually any question! I think the bottom line to your question is: "What are the rules for an automobile?" It seems to me that 99% of the time, golf cart rules/guidelines are the same as a car's rules/guidelines. That said, the best rule, to me, is and always has been: "The automobile is several times bigger than your golfcart. Best to let it have its way at all times!" Hope you'll enjoy traveling around TV in your cart! SWR :beer3: |
If a car passes and crosses a double yellow line it may get a ticket just like if you pass a slow moving car. If it is a passing zone the car is fine. Not to many places with out a cart path but a few, Par Lane behind the banks and Bob Evan's is one and the road
leading to Walmart parallel to 466 is another. Street legal carts are treated just like cars. |
Much More important
The speed limit for any roadway without marked cart lanes is 20 mph for carts AND cars. Examples: PAR Drive and Colony Boulevard. The fine for exceeding this limit is quite impressive. Watch your speed. And no passing unless the center line is dotted.

Unfortunately what you will experience at some point is that a car driver will speed up to get ahead of a golf cart driver. Why? |
Wrong

IQUOTE] Use caution....the answers are not always correct. See Post #4. |

Actually, I would respectfully disagree with both post #3 and #4. Most residential roads do not have marked golf cart paths in #3, and there are some roadways outside residential areas without marked golf cart lanes that have higher speed limits than 20 MPH.

All residential streets are 15 MPH. The streets into LSL and SS are 10 MPH.

bhali333's question has been answered but then the thread took off on a tangent. Unfortunately that tangent led to a lot wrong information. The subject of speed limits is important. Wrong answers regarding speed limits can be harmful.
This thread should be deleted or ignored. |

The advantage of passing is often very small.
