Cain Will Be Elected On This Platform??
 

The Tax Policy Center has just published an analysis of Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan. This is the first such analysis that actually juxtaposes the plan with the income of real people. The Tax Policy Center is a joint venture of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute.

Among the findings of the study...

• The analysis by the Tax Policy Center concludes that more than 90% of people earning less than $37,090—the bottom 40% of earners—would see a tax increase under Mr. Cain's plan. It also estimated that those who earn $17,900 or less per year—the bottom 20%—would pay $1,854 more per year on average in U.S. sales taxes and income tax levies that many now are exempt from paying.

• About half of households in the top 20% of earners, with incomes greater than $111,000, would get an average tax cut of $14,400.

• The top 20% of earners would pay 51% of the federal tax burden under the Cain plan, a reduction of almost 17 percentage points. The bottom 20% would pay 3.4% of the federal tax burden, up from less than 1% now.

As much as many would like to see a new President in the White House in January, 2013, including me, there is no way it will be Herman Cain if he tries to campaign on this platform. Watch how far the GOP members of Congress who are running for re-election stay away from Cain if he continues to press forward with this plan.

You're right VK, we are too self interested to bring this country back. We might as well just give up and let our country go the way of Europe.

Solutions to bringing back business will hurt our sensibilities too much. We'll just forget about it. It's easier that way.

One big difference, Richie and Katz. All the winning candidate needs to do is convince 51% of the voters that his ideas are best for them. My point was, Cain won't do it with this fiscal plank in his platform.

Well, he's the only one who is speaking beyond hyperbole. Something drastic needs to be done. There's no more time for half-baked ideas.

Even if just one of the candidates would campaign on the promise to drag the country back to the levels of of spending and taxation of 2007, as some have proposed in the conservative media, would be a solid plan.

No extremist right wing is going to be elected. Mr. Pizza has now fallen into that category. He is going to start going downhill real soon and you uber conservatives and those even more right wing than that will have to pull the lever for Romney. Even with that, President Obama will be the winner once again and you ubers and the rest of the right wing extremists will have another 4 years to kvetch about. Get used to it.:1rotfl:

I think Howdy Dowdy could win this election. B. Hussein Obama is going to be defeated. America will start the healing process. B. Hussein Obama has almost destroyed this Nation and we will be on the road to recovery January 20,2013 when our new Republican President will issue dozens of executive orders to steer this country back on the right track.

Mr Cain says it's a matter of apples and oranges. It really does not matter what he calls them, but a 9% national sales tax added to our current 6.5-7% local sales tax still adds up to a big fruit cocktail.

I might if he wasn't such a jerk (IMHO) when it comes to foreign policy; particularly his proposed abandonment of Israel and naivete about Iran .

Of course I would have more cash in my pocket to begin with, so maybe.

Cain financial advisor is reevaluating and suggesting that instead of the sales tax, that Cain switch to payroll tax, which people already have and understand. I don't know if that will suffice for revenue, but it's an idea.

Chris Edward of the Cato Institute thinks it would need to be 15-15-15 with the payroll tax. That's another idea. I hope people are really thinking about all this and are not just kneejerk partisan about it.

At the very least, Cain has engaged many people in actually thinking about scrapping the current tax code that is so open to corruption and punishing of economic productivity.
