Lake Griffin State Park

Has anyone gone canoeing or kayaking in Lake Griffin State park and if so how is the scenery? Are there plenty of birds, gators, and other stuff to check out. Heading down for Thanksgiving and was thinking about throwing the kayak in there and doing a little fishing and nature watching.

Thanks

Rainbow River in Dunnellon is a very nice kayak or canoe ride.

We've kayaked at the State Park several times. You actually start out on the Dead River which is very scenic and has plenty on birds and gators. After about a half hour of paddling, the Dead River opens into Lake Griffin. We haven't explored the lake much but liked the river better. They do have canoe rentals at the park.

Is the River really filled with lily pads and weeds? Want to try some fishing there.

My daughter and son-in-law persuaded me to join them on a paddle-wheel boat not too long ago!

Trouble is, we all forgot where to go!

A canoe out of Griffin SP is great fun. Just be sure that the youngsters do the physical work!

There are plenty of pads once you exit the canal. Zoom in on Mapquest. It'll show the pads.

Looks like floating Matt's everywhere in the river.

There's no floating mats anywhere. Mapquest or Bing.com may give you a better idea. Depth is 3-4'. Near the bridge 10' then back to 3-4'. Welcome to FL lakes.
