The museum at Wright Patt is supposed to be an absolute treat (have never been there myself, though). We've got some relatives who are airplane buffs - they always make the extra 2 hour trip to go over there to spend a day whenever they come to visit us. They can't get enough of it!! :D

Air Museums

As a former AF Veteran 72-80, I can attest to Wright Patterson being a fantastic testament to the USAF's claim as the best in the world. A good friend who flew F-16s and another who flew B52s took me there when I visited them in Akron, OH. For any Veteran it should be on your bucket list. The Air Museum in DC is also a must see and should also be on the list.

Memories

This brought back some memories. My Brother-In-Laws brother was a retired
test pilot and after retirement went to work for Air Force security in Dayton. Many years ago (over 25) we were playing golf together and I asked him if he could tell me a secret that had not been released to the public yet and he said that Russia had (at that time) the ability to shoot down our satalites in orbit while we did not have the same ability. Of course that has since changed. He also said there was tremendous waste in USA Intellegence gatherings. That the Air Force had it's orgianiation, the Army had theirs, the Navy had theirs + general USA security organizations,(e.g. CIA, etc.). All were collecting intellegence information, duplicating files, duplicating resources, etc. The amount of waste was astounding. !:plane:

Should be on everyone's bucket list. Easy to do in a day unless you are an aviation enthusiast or AF veteran, then it could well take two days. Changes all the time and is very professional. Lived a mile from it for nearly 30 years until I exited for TV. Don't forgert Orville and Wilbur began their flying activities on nearby prarie (part of the base too). There are several Wright Brothers sites, including the bicycle shop. Add to your vacation list, Dayton and Montgomery Co can use the tourist dollars their economy is like the rest of Ohio.

Wright-Patterson AFB

I worked for the last 4 years at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The Air Force Museum is spectacular and the best kept secret around. So much to see there. And it's free admission! My favorite thing there was the IMAX theatre.

Great place!

Agreed it is fantastic place to visit. My son is an EE at Wright-Pat and has taken me there several times. Favorite of mine is Air Force One that Johnson was sworn in on.

That is so cool that he was sworn in on Air Force One. It's a wonderful base. Many officers choose it to retire there.
