The Best of Jack Benny

Every Tuesday night at 11:30 we've been DVRing the Best of Jack Benny on channel 15 out of Daytona. Last night the episode was from 1954, so we aren't old enough to remember it, but it's still funny. I remember in the early 60's pleading with my Dad to let me stay up and watch Jack Benny, and every once in a while he would. When he said it was time for bed, I would tell him that I wanted to close the door to my bedroom so I could sleep. I wouldn't close the door completely so I could sneak behind the door and watch Jack through the crack. It wasn't until years later that my Mom and Dad told me that they knew what I was doing. Couldn't pull the wool over Mom and Dad's eyes! Boy, I really miss those days, and even though Dad's been gone 23 years, and Mom 6 years, I miss them even more. So if you liked Jack Benny, check it out on Tuesday's, it'll probably bring back some old memories for you too.

Loved Jack but loved Burns and Allen more.

You can also catch the Burns and Allen show - and although they are fun to watch, it is striking to realize how far TV comedy has come.

Benny and Burns and Allen are pleasant to watch, but, truthfully not very funny.

The fun part of these old shows are the guest stars.

Matter of opinion. I find that many of today's comedy is lacking in humor. When I was a kid I would laugh at Red Skelton until my stomach ached.

Jack Benny in real life was a nice person who was generous of his time amd money. Contrary to his screen personna. He had a lot of friends. One was Harry S. Truman. He also raised a lot of money by doing benefits.

One of his best jokes was:

A robber accosted him on the street and said, "your money or your life".

After the robber waited for a while to get his response, Jack, said:

"Wait, I'm thinking".
