Bad vet experience

We have been in TV for about a month. Our mini schnauzer hasn't been his usual happy-go-lucky self. We attributed it to the move. As time went on he was no longer interested in eating and and had a couple of accidents (urine) in the house. I took him to Village Vet today. They did lab work. He is very dehydrated. The vet said based on the lab work he suspects a tumor and made an appt for vet hospital in Tampa. Nothing was found on exam. I left there very upset and went on TOTV. I read all the great reviews on Dr. Vance at Mulberry Grove. I called and was able to get in this afternoon. After getting lost I finally made it to the office. This is after leaving my purse at the Villages sales office near Colony Plaza. When I got to Dr. Vance's office they had closed but she stayed to check on my baby. She advised that I get him to the emergency vet in Leesburg for IV fluids. I'm just getting back from there. What a compassionate crew they have. Also Dr. Vance was wonderful. Bailey is now resting comfortably with IV fluids and pain medication.

I don't know what tomorrow will bring. I would advise anyone looking for a vet to stay away from the Village Vet. The office was not very clean. That should have been my first clue. Dr. Vance at Mulberry Grove was so very compassionate and the office was very clean. I only wish I had checked TOTV RDOG forum sooner and I would have avoided some of the stress and heartache I faced today. Thank you for letting me vent. My husband is up north until Tuesday and I'm feeling pretty alone without my little buddy. :(

Hope everything goes well for your baby. I truly hate when our pets are sick. Glad you found someone you feel comfortable with. I've heard good things about Mulberry.

I'm so sorry that you and your Buddy had to go through so much heartache.
Please keep us informed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm sorry for your bad experience and am very glad your dog is doing better. But in reading your post it sounds as if both vets treated for dehydration. The first vet also performed lab tests that seemed to indicate the possible presence of a tumor. Since your pet is obviously loved and well cared for, did either of the vets come up with a cause of the dehydration? I am not quite sure why you are displeased with the first vet.

I agree, bad advise sent me home with mine, 5 hours later I was at ER in Leesburg having to say goodbye...if I had known the truth about her condition, I would have rushed her to her Atlanta Vet or Gainesville, interview you vet people first....and if you don't feel good after meeting them move on to another!

I received very bad advice from a local TV Vet that has often been recommended here. After three months of treatment with holistic potions, my cat was dying. I went to a Vet off campus who immediately operated for malignant cancer. A year later, my 19 year old Himalyan is happy and healthy.

The first vet was very "matter of fact". He said my pet had an elevated calcium level and I should probably have it checked out in Tampa. When I got to the second vet, she took a quick look at him (again, she stayed after hours to wait for me) and immediately called the Emergency hospital in Leesburg. He needed IV hydration. Maybe there are others here who have had better experiences with the first vet. I however can not recommend them. It's great that we all have a choice in our pet's health care.

Update

Thank you for all your kind words. Today has been another stressful day but I'm feeling better than last night. I picked up my pup in Leesburg at 7 am this morning. The vet recommended immediate follow up and suggested three facilities, Gainesville, Maitland or Tampa. I chose UF in Gainesville. We went straight from Leesburg to UF Animal Hospital. The facility and staff have been wonderful. My little guy is undergoing multiple tests and is spending the night there. I just got a phone call from them and the preliminary pathology report of the liver aspirate is benign. I am causiously optimistic at this point.

I have been using Village Vet for years and take all 3 of my babies there. It sounds to me like they gave you good advice. The lab work must of showed something more then dehydration for them to refer you to Tampa.

Vet Experience.

Just an fyi, I have been going to The Village Vet since moving here 8 years ago and they have always been great! I take all my pets there and they get great compassionate care. I spoke with my Vet there and to clarify The Village Vet did give your pet fluids and bloodwork and recommended a specialist to you, sounds like they did everything right to me. What you may have preceived as a dirty office is really clean they are always cleaning when I have been there. However it is the oldest Vet office in the Villages and yes shows some wear and tear. I hear there are plans to do some remodeling, older and worn does not equate to dirty. That all said I sure hope your furbaby will be well. They truly are like family to us! God bless.

Is there another report?

Have been following your information on your schnauzer. We could have told the same story. In Fla. a few weeks, our almost 13 year old Molly became very ill with nausea, vomiting, projectile. Went to local vet, then a certified hospital in Orangeburg that we loved, then to Maitland to the specialists.......... Not a good ending............
I hope your Bailey is better and that you have very happy information to share.........Take care. L (We are renting out our home and we are back in SC. If you want any information about the hospital in Orangeburg will be happy to share.)
