One of my favorite movies on tonight. Easily 4 stars I hope that you enjoy it.

Dodsworth is a 1936 American drama film directed by William Wyler. Sidney Howard based the screenplay on his 1934 stage adaptation of the 1929 novel of the same name by Sinclair Lewis. Through the title character, it examines the differences between US and European intellect, manners, and morals.

I agree.....a great movie that never gets mentioned anymore.

The story line is about a couple that has been married for twenty years. He retires from industry and they plan to live it up by travelling to Europe.

It's about values, aging and redemption.

It a four star movie that is a hidden gem of classics. It seemed to be filmed in Europe but was shot on the back lots of the studio in CA. I watched it last night and have it on video. I always enjoy it.

My favorite line is when he says to his wife, "have I told you today how much I adore you".

I enjoyed it again very much. Now I'm waiting for Mrs. Miniver!

Thanks for the heads up. We watched it and enjoyed it. My husband thinks most of the movies filmed in the 30s were about rich people, rather than ordinary folks, or maybe we're just missing looking at the channel guide carefully. I do love to look at the interiors of the rooms and the clothing in these movies. Elegant!
