Lodging tax?
Is it true if you rent your house out you are supposed to pay a 9% lodging tax? What if you lease it unfurnished long term, still have to pay?

Yep, make sure it's 181 days or more, at least that's what I heard.

I'm not sure what a lodging tax is. But you have to pay a 6% sales tax, even on long term unfurnished rentals.
|
No sales/lodging tax on rental of at least six months and one day. Less than that you should charge sales tax for the state and the county the property is located. It's a real money maker for the state on vacation properties. You should charge it to the renters, if you don't and get auditited you will be responsible for the tax due.

It is my understanding that no tax is due on a rental over 6 months - furnished or unfurnished. But tax is due, according to which county the house is located in (it differs in each county. If the owner or tenant doesn't pay the tax, there is a very large fine/penalty to pay.

Does anyone know the procedure for filing? We are considering renting our CYV and don't know anything about the tax liabilities for renting property. Any help would be appreciated.
