Too Cold for Golf?
Since I am extremely new to golf, is there any special way people have to determine if it's too cold to play? Or is it an individual decision? As long as you can still feel your fingers, it's all good.
|
I think it is a personal decision. One of my regulars checks the temps for the following week and tells me if he will play or not.
Some days I would rather not play but we make it a consensus among the group as to whether we play that day or not. When it is really cold, the starter shacks have a free time range (say 10:00). They will not charge you points for that day if you cancel and you play is early enough. |
And, if it's really cold, they may close the courses until temps warm up above freezing so as to not harm the grass. This is announced on the radio and golfthevillages.com website
|
Thanks guys, I'm supposed to play tomorrow and it's reportedly going to be the coldest day so far this season. Guess I'll find out when I get to the starting shack. I was expecting someone to say that if it was too cold to push the tee into the ground, then it's too cold.

I am a sissy. Between 70 and 80 degrees is my pick!! Light comfortable golf rain gear is sold and the umbrella is firmly attached to our bags. Also light comfortable golf outerwear that keeps the wind out is good to have too. Also golf gloves for temperature, not just grip. It all depends on how much a joy and obsession golf is to you. Keep your head down. |
An expression folks use when it is hot is "it is not the heat it is the humidy". What I have learned in my winters in FL is that "it is not the cold it the north wind. 50 dgrees with a 15-20 mph north wind feels like 25 degress to me .....
In the end it is solely a personal decision. Folks have different tolerances or obession levels for golf. If it will be uncomfortable, wait a day or two and it will be great again! Tomorrow is an example of a day I would not play  Sunny / Wind High |

If the snow is 2 feet day, it is too cold to play.

Tomorrow's weather = too many layers of clothes = too many bad golf shots = too many strokes = too much time freezing when I coulda been shopping! I envy you hardy souls who can play in the frigid weather. Too many years living here have turned hubby and me into wimps. Gracie, perhaps you can report back here after your game tomorrow, once you have thawed out. I'll have a cup of hot cocoa waiting for ya!
Hourly Forecast 6 am 33°F Feels Like 23°F 9 am 37°F Feels Like 27°F 12 pm 44°F Feels Like 36°F 3 pm 47°F Feels Like 41°F 6 pm 41°F Feels Like 36°F 9 pm 34°F Feels Like 29°F |
Like I said, I'm scheduled to play tomorrow also. Starting around 920 AM. Maybe it will warm up to thawing by then. I don't believe I'll be wearing shorts though.

If your fingers freeze and stick to the club when you're attempting to pull it out of the bag..............then it's probably to cold to play.
If the moisture in your sand bottle freezes the sand into a solid lump............then it's probably to cold to play. If your golfing companions look at you and laugh because your nose is running down your face and you can't feel it..............then it's probably to cold to play. :pepper2: Bill :) |
Too many nice days in TV
not in to freezing my butt, left that back in NC, will wait until Friday, should be great!.....
When you have too many layers of clothes on to get in the golf cart then it might be TOO COLD...When you need a hammer to get the tee in the ground it might be TOO COLD....When your playing partners say your 30 foot putt is good, it might be TOO COLD....When your 7 iron comes out of the bag with other clubs attached by ice it might be TOO COLD |

Another way to know if it may be a bit cold is when you do not get charged three points to cancel. If the tee time office says it is a one point cancel day, it may be a bit chilly. |
Actually it is WEDNESDAY...which is supposed to be 27.
Old habits die hard. If you say you are gonna...you should. NOT really looking forward to it. Tee time is nine thirtyish. Thanks for thinkin' of me, aj.;) |
