opinions on downsizing within TV
 

I'm thinking of downsizing from a designer to a courtyard or patio villa...I know it will be a big change but I would love to hear from anyone who has bought large in TV and then went to something smaller. Was it a good choice? do you miss all the room & garage space you had? was changing neighbors difficult? was it worth it financially? And any other comments you'd like to add would be helpful...I've been told to hold on to the designer because it will be worth more when TV is done building - did anyone consider that before they downsized?

I've been told its common for people to move 2 to 3 times within TV...love my home but still can't help wondering if it would be easier smaller....

We are in a Patio Villa after living in a big home.. I cant tell you how people that are in our neighborhood have downsized and love it. Who needs to take care of all that space. It is time to play.. I am never in my house....the outside of the house is what drew me to the Villages not the home itself.... what do you need a comfy chair, a little food, and the bed... That works for me.. I personnally dont like the courtyards , I feel a little closed in. I have a corner Patio Villa which gives me all the room I need..

We are coming from a 3000 sq ft house in Seattle with an 800 sq ft garage and a flat half acre of land. I NEVER go upstairs where there are bedrooms, bathroom, etc. I go weeks without walking through the living and dining room as we have a bedroom with sitting room. We looked at every type of place in TV, all lovely.
We bought a CYV at Misison Hills, we bought the first one on the view side so there is only one wall and the view is expansive and gorgeous and open. It has just the right amount of living space and the yard is huge so we are putting in almost a 30 x 50 birdcage, swimspa and hot tub, etc. To me living in Florida is about enjoying the activities, being outdoors as much as possible, and havinga cozy home.
But I see that the designe homes have a lot more space so less thought has to go into what to get rid of. I am enjoying downsizing our stuff. It feels freeing.
You have to live in what works for you, no matter what anyone thinks. It is all about you, your needs, your stuff, your space, your happiness.

We went from owning a 2000 sq ft home with a pool in NY to downsizing to a town home. Now that we will be moving to TV we have chosen a designer home, mostly because we want a pool again. The thought of not having to close a pool and put away all of the lawn furniture is very appealing. We wanted to be outside as much as possible and with our over sized lanai and pool we feel that will suit our needs best. In the end, you have to pick what fits your lifestyle. We tend to like to say around the house a bit so a larger place made sense. :)

Being that you "love" your home, I would strongly advise you to stay where you are and hire some help when needed.

I think that what Village Pl posted is a very good thing to think about. We seem to accumulate "stuff" as we widen our interests. I have so many art supplies now that a lot of room is used for them.

I agree! Moving is tiring and time consuming, and so is having a house for sale. And by the time you hire a mover, pay comission to a real estate company, and redcorate, the move will probably cost you $15,000 to $20,000.
